Cards 85 and 86 of 106 sketch cards done for the Mars Attacks Heritage trading card series by Topps.

A riff on Destroying a Dog, card #36 of the original Mars Attacks cards set.

With a large stack of cards to do in a short period of time I tried something new here.

So trial and error led back to the first pair being the best, but without a colour background.

Mars Attacks cards first appeared in 1962, conceived and produced by Len Brown, Woody Gelman, Wally Wood, Bob Powell and Norman Saunders.

The Heritage card series is celebrating the 50th anniversary, which is now already reportedly sold out.

A bit of a story behind this series. Half way through the project the B7 people decided they wanted firmer control on the card set (in preparation for their relaunch of B7, presumably) and then rejected all but a few artists.

So while not pack-inserted my cards are being used as “incentives” and/or “redemptions”.

873 careless

A winter sketch is rushed 'n careless done.

A pretty girl, Erasmus careless spun.

As matching key word, "careless", it should run.

A short day, windy, cold, for winter 'pic'.

The wind has backed to East - a nasty trick.

'Twas West, cold face now, twisted neck has crick.

The foreground's earth, with slip overhead.

Behind is column, carries slip road said.

To right is wall, that shelters me in bed.
