Started a new sketchbook today and it's going to take a few days to get used to a new kind of paper.

I was wondering what kind of sketchbooks you all used? Any recommendations for a SB that takes watercolour and other wet mediums well?

another old sketchbook page...big head afro mama...

the other night i went for an hour long walk after work and the streets were abnormally empty for a wednesday night at midnight. it was both spooky and pleasantly surreal...like i was the last person on earth like some scene from 28 days later minus the freaky zombie virus stuff but still with an air of something ghostly. all i wanted was a glass of whiskey at a bar somewhere before stepping on the train and for some reason i couldn`t find a pub that was open. it made me feel like i was in the wrong city or the wrong year or even the wrong skin...the funny thing is i always walk around at night with my headphones on after work to have some time to myself and that`s the part that felt weird. i`ve never gone to a bar with the intention of drinking by myself and when i finally found one it felt completely normal to me, as if i did it every night. scenes of mickey rourke playing bukowski in "barfly" flashed through my head...

(not direct quotes, but close enough)

-"i hate the police, don`t you?"

-"well i dunnnnno, but i know i feel better when they`re not aroooound..."

-"i`m going to stop drinking"

-"aww baby, now don`t do anything ridiculous"

and as i watched this guy in the mirror sitting at the bar and reading by himself at 1am and listened to woman saying "i`m a thespian, not a lesbian" i noticed that i somehow knew these people...perhaps it was just the sketches we create in our minds of a person and what we imagine they do, the routines of their lives and how they live, but i felt as if i had been there before watching for a very long time through a hole in the ceiling and i had come to care for these characters like in a book that had been scribed in the inside of someone`s mind that i was peering at through a half open window...and then something whispered that if i wrote a novel, i`d run out of pages...
