Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Head sculpt complete - time to paint it up and sculpt the rest of him!
Here is the completed sculpt of Sian Jeisel from Star Wars Republic/Dark Times. Already began painting the figure, hope to have some completed pics in the next week or so.
Paint work teaser of Zayne Carrick in Spacesuit from KOTOR. I'm taking these shots with the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone...love that app.
Sculpt update on Kane's Death Shroud - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Began sculpting detail over the frame I created early last week. The top portion of the shroud will be separate, attached by magnets. Created a thin shell/frame for this piece to be sculpted over later. The head sculpt of Kane will easily be seen through the shroud, along with a variant that is similar to the sculpt for the prop miniature. More sculpt work needed and tons of detail to be added. #alien #nostromo #kane #deathshroud #chestburster #sculpture #avesfixit #deletedscene
Detail shot of Lumbra - the shoulder armor is completely free moving over the joints allowing for maximum articulation. The ammo belt and holster are a partial mix of FIXIT and original rubberized parts to allow the legs to move freely and pistol to be inserted into holster.
My complete sculpted figure of Lumbra - A Gotal space pirate who appeared in issues 7-10 of the Dark Horse comic saga Dark Times. Lumbra was killed at the hands of Jedi K'Kruhk after attempting to capture/kill Jedi younglings.
The figure has 12 points of articulation, an alternate head (still a WIP) and a working holster with removable pistol. The figure stands approx. 4.25" high. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt. Head featured in photo is a plastic cast of my sculpted original.
An earlier custom of Cade Skywalker from the Dark Horse comic series Star Wars: Legacy.
Created early 2009
1:18 scale - approx. 3.75".
Portions sculpted using Aves FIXIT
Painted using Floyquil Acrylics
The second of two semi-static posed figures is complete. This version depicts the creature as it appears in the deleted "crab-walker" scene from the 1979 film as Lambert and Parker make a desperate attempt to escape the Nostromo. This deleted scene however was thought comical by many, not well executed on film and revealed too much of the creature...reducing it to nothing more than a man in a rubber suit...something Ridley Scott was avoiding by using smoke and shadow.
Hand sculpted, hand painted. 1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.
When crouched or "crab walking", the figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. When standing, the figure is approx. 5.25" high, still not fully erect as the leg and hip joints limit the full motion (again, this was originally meant to be a static posed figure). Fortunately I was able to add several articulation points to the figure: Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable. The tail is static but is attached using a revoltech joint and can be switched out with a longer tail option.
Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

I've completed the paint application to the head of my sculpted Embo - using a variety of bright colors (red, yellow, orange and white) to give the eyes a glowing effect. Now, back to sculpting..:)
Those of you who have kept up with my MGS figures will know this one - Jonathan, member of Foxhound from MGS4. I have returned to working on this figure and most of my other Metal Gear creations after shelving them for over a year now...I know, it's a sin....Anyway, I have completed resculpting of the lower abdomen front and back, improved the articulation where the upper and lower torso connect, and now beginning work on the arms and legs.
The sculpt work of Jedi Master Luke (Invasion) is complete. Took some final shots before prime and paint. Includes and alternate head sculpt based on another artist interpretation.
My 4LOM from The Empire Strikes Back - and not much sculpting has gone into this guy thanks to Gentle Giant. I've taken apart the bust up 4LOM and blesed it with articulation! The only sculpted parts will be the abdomen and the upper legs.
Yuuzhan Vong Warrior from the Dark Horse comic series, Invasion. Sculpt is about 85% complete - Shoulder armor is removable. Figure is a total sculpt - using Aves FIXIT. Plan to create an alternate head sculpt of the warrior. 1:18 scale, approx 5.5 inches.
Some detail work on Old Snake from MGS4 - Working on the sneaking suit, mainly the upper body at the moment. May thin out the shoulders a tiny bit, then work on the details around the waist.
Here's some of the gang hangin' out and waiting for me to complete them LOL! Vong Commander, K'Kruhk, Starkiller (TFU2) and Nym.
My first Gundam I've actually decided to build! Thought I would start off small - 1/144 HG Wing Gundam. I have a ton of these models I've collected over the years..actually have purchase a few just last week ;) Mostly Master Grade. I prefer to hand paint my models - I use a very thin paint in multiple layers. It gives the model that "lived in look" but also significantly reduces the lines that can appear when hand brushing on a smooth surface. Lets face it...what Gundam comes out of war looking shiny and new? I'm a realist I'm afraid :)
Ash (Ian Holm) - Painted sample complete. Will begin working on the figures body frame and sculpt. A seconds and third version of the Ash head sculpt is in the works...one involving "milk".
Here is just a small paint progression showing the steps I take to bring Jedi Shado Vao to life - The initial coast is a dark gray - the it's a process of dry brushing layer after layer - beginning with deeper, darker colors. By the way, Shado will have two additional head sculpts...
Darth Stryfe from the Dark Horse comic series, Star Wars Legacy . I am currently working on his upper body detail along with the lower legs. This figure will possibly be my first to feature removable body armor held by small magnets. I hope to have more details as I experiment a little with the possibilities :)
Here is a WIP sculpt of my second Vong warrior from Star Wars Invasion - This will be the second piece in a series of five warriros I will be creating from the comic series.
Some detail work on Old Snake from MGS4 -and a size comparison between him and Jonathan. Working on the sneaking suit, mainly the upper body at the moment. May thin out the shoulders a tiny bit, then work on the details around the waist.
Sculpt updates for the Neomorph - Alien: Covenant 1:18 scale and the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection also 1:18 scale.
Sorry for the delay everyone - been busy as like many of you, being robbed of the time that we could be sitting down being creative in one fashion or another.
A work in progress, using Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio LLC.
First off, I am close to completing both the upper torso and a second alternate head sculpt of the Neomorph. I said before in a previous posting that I disliked the CGI version from the film...the blank canvas of a face, although creepy, was an easy gag....to me, the concept art of Colin Shulver is a much better interpretation of the beast's mouth at rest. The practical work picked it up but it wasn't as convincing to me, so I went with the concept depiction.
The head is on a ball peg like the previous head sculpt seen earlier, although the movement is limited due to the loose skin I chose to include down the chin and neck.
The upper torso has the back and one side left to be sculpted before moving to the piping and lower body. Hoping to get more sculpted this week a little at a time each night.
Alien Newborn update coming up next...#alien #covenant #neomorph #backburster #miniature #xenomorph #sculpture
Much more detail to the head this week - also worked on the upper arms. I feel the detail is going to be enormous with this figure once completed...and with a full range of articulation? Awesome! I'm looking forward to beginning the chest cavity.
However, many revisions need to take place before I am satisfied but I feel I am heading in the right direction. All Hail FIXIT SCULPT! I couldn't do this type of detail at this scale without it!
I hope these early images show you how much effort goes into creating these figures - probably the most difficult part of building one of these is the early stages, creating a working armature that will allow the articulation I want as well as support the sculpt work I intend to apply.
Some detail work on Old Snake from MGS4 - Working on the sneaking suit, mainly the upper body at the moment. May thin out the shoulders a tiny bit, then work on the details around the waist. I just added the feet to this piece, replacing the worn out Microman ones...will sculpt them out this weekend.
Here is the completed sculpt of Sian Jeisel from Star Wars Republic/Dark Times. Already began painting the figure, hope to have some completed pics in the next week or so.
