I don't know if we were having a drought, or a warm spurt in the fall when they let the water down for people to work on their docks. That's me in the foreground, sitting in my folding chair. We still have that chair, and now Rollie and Tiller sit in it. But now, the neighbor's dock is gone, and there are more houses in the background. Sinclair, 1976.
After 47 years of playing the Sinclair bagpipes my Mom & Dad bought for me in Pine Falls, I had them updated with some David Davidse hand engraved aluminum fittings and had everything installed by our local expert machinist Mike McDonald who also made the imitation ivory projecting mounts.

Shown, a great little Sinclair gas station is fully restored and serves as the Scurry County Visitors Center. Located in Scurry county, Snyder, Texas is named after a buffalo hunter, William Henry (Pete) Snyder, who built a trading post in 1878. Snyder is located on U.S. 84 between Sweetwater and Lubbock. From the highway, you’d hardly know you just passed a fairly sizable, thriving town. Snyder was primarily a ranching and farming town until oil was discovered in 1948. Now energy, oil and wind farms, is the primary industry. The area hosts two of the largest wind farms in the nation. The 2010 census lists a population of about 11,000 people. The downtown square has a number of older buildings showcasing classic early Texas architecture from the turn of the century. Several of the buildings displayed date marks from the late 1800s to early 1900s. When we visited, the downtown area was busy with traffic, even early on a Sunday morning. On the way out of town we came across a nice surprise, the Scurry County Visitors Center. It is an old fashion Sinclair gas station that looks like it was plucked right out of the past. In Elberta, UT. Old gas pump - not possible to buy more than $9.99 worth of gas.
I drove by there today (2010-09-15) and the pump has either been removed or stolen now :(

The odd name comes from the fact that long ago, this church stood outside—i.e. "without"—Cripplegate, one of the gates in the old London wall (remnants of which punctuate the Barbican complex).
