According to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", 42 is the answer to "the ultimate question of life the universe and everything" - though no one knows what the question is. To me it's all much simpler than that! It's how long we've been married - 42 years ;o)
So we are celebrating this week. And one thing we did was to indulge our passion for glass, art glass, hand-blown glass. The artist whose work draws me is Elin Isaksson. Ice, snow, dewdrops, shoots - these are some of the shapes and textures that she draws on. Elin is Swedish, and she was trained in Sweden and Scotland, and works in Scotland. "Her ideas often develops after travelling back to the north of Sweden or along the coast of Scotland taking endless photographs as muse." No wonder her glass appeals to me ;o)
More shapes and colours are in the first comment field.
This photo is of a small blue and clear glass tea light - about 9.5cm/3.5" tall. Shot with a simple single light above. Shooting glass is one of the Simple Pleasure I enjoy, whether it is art glass or a plain wine glass ;o)

When the barista handed me my coffee from the drive-thru window today, I noticed this little crayon drawn heart peeking out. I said to him, "Did someone draw a heart on my cup?", to which he replied, "apparently so." This just made my day...someone took the time to brighten my day with this heart and that is very special.
Such a fine morning last Saturday that i cant help look through my images and see more that i like! Its a return to the magical weather we have not had lately so im just making the most of it whilst it lasts!

My contribution to "Simple pleasures" themed Flickr Friday.
Sky above our heads is like a random generator. There are so many interesting cloud types and you never know what you'll see there, tomorrow. On this day, beautiful wispy cirrus clouds decorated the neat, cyan sky. It was a simple pleasure!

Fridays remind us that happiness isn’t always about grand gestures—it’s often tucked into the small things. A soft breeze, a perfectly timed joke, the smell of a flower, the comfort of knowing that tomorrow can begin slowly. It’s in the anticipation, the unwinding, the embrace of joy without expectation.
So here’s to Fridays—the golden bridge between duty and delight. Whatever you do, however you celebrate, make room for the small magic. Because life is sweetest in the moments we take time to notice.
As I grow older and the Earth grows smaller, I realize how important it is to take the time to observe and enjoy the the simplest of pleasures. It is a difficult thing to do today in this hurry up, high tech world we live in.....but take the time to just sit by the edge of a pond or on an outcropping of a hillside and watch the sunset and enjoy the simple pleasures. It brings such joy.....and it doesn't cost a thing :-)

Yesterday marked the beginning of a two and a half week break from work, and I could not be more excited to spend my time sleeping in, taking photos, exploring forests and beaches, and taking some time for myself! As soon as work ended yesterday, I went straight to the forest and spent a few hours exploring and taking photos. It felt so refreshing and I can't wait to do it again today!

Something that I found as a pleasure later in life, my morning coffee is definitely that now...especially when I can make it in my big cup on a Saturday morning
I have not died. Nor am I in Bilbao. I'm too early. Besides, this is a tapas bar. It would be pintxos in Bilbao.
All of this dislocation in space and time is my excuse. I make no apology.
Around the corner from City Recital Hall is a skinny little tapas bar. After Handel, I recommend feeding the body. I wouldn't say no to a chilled manzanilla, a few snacks, some conversation, and reflection on the performance just experienced. I'm too early for the commemoration to follow. I'm in the wrong place.
Roll forward two days; 5 December 2025. The esteemed architect Frank Gehry has died. Perhaps you know him for the spectacular titanium clad Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. No, I've never been to the Basque Country. But I have seen one piece of Gehry's work: the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building at the University of Technology, Sydney. I can't show you a picture, so I need to go back, stalk the light, and visit with a lens up to the job.
Put aside any sadness his demise leaves behind, because he has left behind extraordinary things, a heavenly legacy we can marvel at as great as Handel, Bach, Jackson Pollock, Jørn Oberg Utzon, Pink Floyd, Neil Finn or Vambola Veinberg.
I have not died; this is not heaven. But it is a tapas bar. That's close enough for the ecstasy these simple pleasures bring.
As I stated below in one of my replies, there is a rather interesting story related to this image: I arrived at this location and there were four people standing on the banks of this river just off to the left. I was able to compose a couple of "people free" images before I noticed this guy taking off his boots. I quickly made a few more images before he entered the water and proceeded to meander out into the middle of "my composition". I think he knew what he was doing and he seemed to be in no hurry to get out of the way. Why should he let some photographer rush "HIS communion with nature". But, the longer I watched and waited for him to get out of the way the more I realized he added just what I needed to make this image a little more interesting - CLICK.
I hope his experience in the river was just as rewarding for him as this image is for me.

Man of Aran fudge - all the way from Dublin, Ireland.
Made by Tomás Póil who grew up on Ínis Óirr – one of the three Aran Islands off the coast of Galway.
Strawberries and Cream Fudge, sitting on top of a piece of Heavenly Honeycomb Fudge.
Delicious!
Taking a bath has become a luxury…it's down to 2 minute showers over here due to the water shortage.
Have a fun day, everyone!

I love the country life... it is just has that down home feel. I use to go by this every morning when I was taking Re to his other babysitter.
Bono delivers a perfect pitch to Rattlers catcher, Skully, as Tebya, Ilya and Omiyage stare in disbelief at the outfield.
