The bluebird had come from the distant south

to his box in the poplar tree.

And he opened wide his slender mouth,

on purpose to sing to me. ~ Thoreau

Subject

A pair of fishing hooks, each less than an inch long, form a heart. Fishing is a #SimplePleasure that I most associate with wonderful times spent with my father and stepfather at various times of my life.

It was shot for several challenges simultaneously:

Macro Mondays "Less Than An Inch"

Flickr Friday's "Simple Pleasures"

Smile On Saturday's "On Pure White"

Weekly Theme Challenge's "Hearts"

Sunday Lights "Only Your Best"

Lens

On the body we have the SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL WR. It's the kit wide-angle zoom. Reversed onto that lens is the SMC Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm.

The EXIF data only shows the information for the body-attached lens. Even at 55mm it has mild vignetting when used this way. At 18mm, only a small central circle is visible. The reversed lens is fixed at 50mm and is wide open at f1.7.

The image is not cropped or modified in any way.

Lighting

One Pentax AF540FGZ strobe is mounted on the body as the wireless master, aimed at an improvised white-paper reflector. A second AF540FGZ capped with a generic snap-on diffuser is the wireless slave, laying just outside the frame.

April, 2019

Suddenly, yesterday, came a warm, sunny and calm day ..... and it felt like Spring had finally bowed in.

I started humming the Beatles track from way back ...... the simple pleasures really are the best!

A happy Easter festival holiday to everyone ;o)

What better way to spend a frosty day than cuddled up in bed with one's cat and iPad.

My mother, who celebrated her 100th birthday in November.

For ODC, Simple Pleasures

I am sure this "Mermaid Pink Gin" will be lovely and very tasty but a simple pleasure such as this is not for me in the early afternoon!

In any case, I took the photo at my son's and daughter-in-law's and I'm sure they wouldn't have been to happy if I had opened the bottle!

Our Daily Challenge ~ ... Simple Pleasures

Stay Safe and Healthy Everyone!

Thanks to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... Thanks to you all!

After time away - it's always at home where my heart finds rest.

My son made my homecoming even more special with the beautiful roses. I was most touched - as, since my beloved Bill died there are no flowers given but,...our son gave roses on this occasion.

My heartfelt thanks...your Dad would be proud.

A cuppa tea, my favorite reading chair along with flowers and, my home wraps around me like...a warm blanket.

Of course, my fur babies (dogs) gave me a greeting that carried on for hours.

Thank you most kindly for visiting.

Blessings...

Barb

...take time to enjoy life's simple pleasures.

I’m on leave this week (not self isolation!). Me and my bestie went for a long walk and then sat outside in the wind for a glass of wine. Pleasures where you can find them!

I was able to use my Bronica sq lens with an adaptor for my camera, that is why the lens info is goofy.

We all enjoy being silly sometimes 😏

Silence spreads like a wordless prayer. The lake breathes slowly, as time dissolves along the line where water meets sky. Nothing asks for haste.

There is an invisible dialogue between she and the horizon – a conversation that needs no sound, only presence. The tree, stripped of its leaves, understands. It bends with the wind but stands tall, holding secrets that winter cannot erase.

The bench is not just a place to rest but a space where thoughts drift lightly, dancing between what is and what once was. Solitude, here, does not weigh heavy. It spreads like light over the water, turning every absence into a poem.

At the lake’s edge, what feels missing becomes whole.

***

Fathers and sons fishing on the ice. First time for us on a frozen lake, while they probably did this hundreds of times. Simple, yet amazing moment.

My dad could peel an apple in one long string ... with his penknife. He kept the blade sharp - and now I do too, though I can't match his skill ;o)

Apple

by Kazue Shinkawa

"Mom is

peeling an apple

She is unwinding the end of a red ribbon

wound around a round body

round and round. . .

Peeled and naked, the apple looks cold

it looks embarrassed

It’s a pity to see it cut in quarters

“May I have it as it is?”

I gently place it

on my palm "

Turn up the volume for some real Rock N' Roll!

Gotta love that Hoya ND400 Hey! I really think this one is a absolute cracker long exposure.

A storm on the horizon was shifting north across the horizon so i thought i would capture it and with my Magic Hoya, i placed it for around a 5 min exposure. Man, i didn't think it would turn a storm into this. Admittedly it was sunrise, but the light it caught is surreal. I am really stoked i got this because the sun was staring at us through the clouds to the left of frame and here i was with the camera facing towards a storm and i thought also it was out of focus so i didn't know whether to stop it and not miss the action.

I am glad i didn't!!!

Great to meet fellow flickr addict John this morning, its always great to meet like minded people especially when your getting a cracker dawn like we did.

This is an old industrial area near the Hertford town centre just off the road called The Wash which has a bridge over the River Lea. I had walked by the Lea then walking into The Wash via this pathway. The road allows access to a small parking area for homes and businesses in this area. The wall on the right is in full sunlight and the red is an electrical feed of some sort.
