Love poem

Feather duster.

Birdcage made of whispers.

Tail of a black cat.

I’m a child running

With open scissors.

My eyes are bandaged.

You are a heart pounding

In a dark forest.

The shriek from the Ferris wheel.

That’s it, bruja

With arms akimbo

Stamping your foot.

Night at the fair.

Woodwind band.

Two blind pickpockets in the crowd.

9368 Simić Vuk Simić Vakanović oko 1919. (14.I.1895-1973) i Marija Maša Simić (rođ. Miletić) (rođ. 5.VIII.1896) rastavljeni 16.VI.1921.

Muzejski dokumentacioni centar zahvaljuje Dr Simiću bogatu dokumentaciju o radu i djelovanju muzejskih ustanova iz gotovo cjelokupne dnevne i periodične štampe u Jugoslaviji.

MINOTS LEDGE POEM

Like spectral hounds across the sky

The white clouds scud before the storm

And naked in the howling night

The red-eyed lighthouse lifts its form.

The waves with slippery fingers clutch

The massive tower, and climb and fall,

And, muttering, growl with baffled rage

Their curses on the sturdy wall.

Up in the lonely tower he sits,

The keeper of the crimson light-

Silent and awestruck does he hear

The imprecations of the night.

The white spray beats against the panes

Like some wet ghost that down the air

Is hunted by a troop of fiends,

And seeks a shelter any where.

There is so much symbolism in lighthouses.

and . . . many memories.

As a young teen, my dad actually spent time in Minot's Ledge Light, where flashing 1~4~3 meant, I LOVE YOU. In Dad's final years with Alzheimer's, the last words he scratched to me (in the way of symbols) in his "Minot's" journal were . .... ...

Hotel Insonnia

I liked my little hole,

Its window facing a brick wall.

Next door there was a piano.

A few evenings a month

A crippled old man came to play

« My Blue Heaven ».

Mostly, though, it was quiet.

Each room with its spider in heavy overcoat

Catching his fly with a web

Of cigarette smoke and revery.

So dark,

I could not see my face in the shaving mirror.

At 5 A.M. the sound of bare feet upstairs.

The « Gypsy » fortuneteller,

Whose storefront is on the corner,

Going to pee after a night of love.

Once, too, the sound of a child sobbing.

So near it was, I thought

For a moment, I was sobbing myself.

“Wanted: a needle swift enough to sew this poem into a blanket.”

Didn't see any "wanted" signs at the quilt show today, nor any basket cases,

but feasted on the wonderful array of colorful expressions which were certainly poetic in nature.

Stone

Go inside a stone

That would be my way.

Let somebody else become a dove

Or gnash with a tiger’s tooth.

I am happy to be a stone.

From the outside the stone is a riddle:

No one knows how to answer it.

Yet within, it must be cool and quiet

Even though a cow steps on it full weight,

Even though a child throws it in a river;

The stone sinks, slow, unperturbed

To the river bottom

Where the fishes come to knock on it

And listen.

I have seen sparks fly out

When two stones are rubbed,

So perhaps it is not dark inside after all;

Perhaps there is a moon shining

From somewhere, as though behind a hill —

Just enough light to make out

The strange writings, the star-charts

On the inner walls.

Charles Simic

...

Because I am the bullet

That has baptized each one of your senses,

Poems are made of our lusty wedding nights...

The joy of words as they are written.

The ear that got up at four in the morning

To hear the grass grow inside a word.

Still, the most beautiful riddle has no answer.

I am the emptiness that tucks you in like a

mockingbird's nest,

The fingernail that scratched on your sleep's

blackboard.

Take a letter: From cloud to onion.

Say: There was never any real choice.

One gaunt shadowy mother wiped our asses,

The same old orphanage taught us loneliness.

Street-organ full of blue notes,

I am the monkey dancing to your grinding--

And still you are afraid-and so,

It's as if we had not budged from the beginning.

Time slopes. We are falling head over heels

At the speed of night. That milk tooth

You left under the pillow, it's grinning.

Carrying On like a Crow

Are you authorised to speak

For these trees without leaves?

Are you able to explain

What the wind intends to do

With a man’s shirt and a woman’s nightgown

Left on the laundry line?

What do you know about dark clouds?

Ponds full of fallen leaves?

Old model cars rusting in a driveway?

Who gave you permission

To look at the beer can in a ditch?

The white cross by the side of the road?

The swing set in the widow’s yard?

Ask yourself, if words are enough,

Or if you’d be better off

Flapping your wings from tree to tree

And carrying on like a crow?
