Finding her husband, Francois, age sixty-nine, trying to stick his head into a birdcage, Mme Sante, wearing only a flimsy white nightgown, ran out in the middle of the night into the streets of Paris to seek a doctor or a priest. (Simic)

Un'immagine sfuocata di corpi svestiti
nel momento della dolce indolenza
che segue all'amore
quando il più malvagio dei cuori
arriva a credere che la felicità
può durare per sempre
(Charles Simic)

The truth is dark under your eyelids.
What are you going to do about it?
The birds are silent; there's no one to ask.
All day long you'll squint at the gray sky.
When the wind blows you'll shiver like straw. ...

As evidenced from my recent posts of our stay in Newport, RI, I just loved our room at the B&B! This is a scene from our bathroom! I love the dichotomy between the patterned lighthouse in the mesh curtain and the real lighthouse in the background!
Also love this quote by Charles Simic . . .
“Inside my empty bottle I was constructing a lighthouse while all the others were making ships.”
It reminds me of how my eye sees at times and how my brain follows through!
The first panel, "Unlikely Influences," featured Lyn Hejinian, Robert Pinsky, Charles Simic, and Susan Stewart, and was moderated by the Academy's Executive Director, Tree Swenson. Photo by Star Black.
It seemed the kind of life we wanted.
Wild strawberries and cream in the morning.
Sunlight in every room.
The two of us walking by the sea naked.
Some evenings, however, we found ourselves
Unsure of what comes next.
Like tragic actors in a theater on fire,
With birds circling over our heads,
The dark pines strangely still,
Each rock we stepped on bloodied by the sunset.
We were back on our terrace sipping wine.
Why always this hint of an unhappy ending?
Clouds of almost human appearance
Gathering on the horizon, but the rest lovely
With the air so mild and the sea untroubled.
The night suddenly upon us, a starless night.
You lighting a candle, carrying it naked
Into our bedroom and blowing it out quickly.
The dark pines and grasses strangely still.

This is my recent setup optimized for doing my research. I mainly use OS X, but I also run Windows for embedded system programming and Linux for running Simics VM. All of them are virtualized within VMWare Fusion.
In the photo, there are four screens but are actually only two Macs on the 72-inch wide desk. I found this setting to be useful because it's portable and the load can be balanced between the two. There are several other computers in my room for server and simulation purposes.
All the computers are synchronized using Unison, and controlled by a single set of keyboard and mouse using Synergy. I modified the source code of Synergy so that it supports Magic Mouse perfectly (the original version uses some deprecated APIs which doesn't support pixel-based scrolling).
Thanks to the GoodReader application on iPad, I can read all the books and papers even when I'm on the go. I need to hide the annoying iPad's white USB cable, but the iPad's power issue makes the problem a bit difficult to solve.
Porto.

«Ainda tenho pavor do palco»,
Diz a bela mulher,
A memória, o único fósforo queimado do meu coração:
A sua mão guiando-me nas ruínas,
E as cartas sussurrando sobre as nossas cabeças
Que a nossa juventude e o nosso amor aturdiram.

I'm going over to see what those weeds
By the stone wall are worried about.
Perhaps, they don't care for the way
The shadows creep across the lawn
In the silence of the afternoon.
The sky keeps being blue,
Though we hear no birds,
See no butterflies among the flowers
Or ants running over our feet.
Trees, you bend your branches ever so slightly
In deference to something
About to make its entrance
Of which we know nothing,
Spellbound as we are by the deepening quiet,
The light just beginning to dim.

Oh, did I have fun with this!
As I rounded the corner (no pun intended) in the wonderful old house at the Garden Paradise last Sunday, this scene grabbed my camera like a magnet!
Instantly I was with my grandmother again in her old country kitchen. Oh, how she would have loved to have lived this moment with me; but I also know how pleased she would be that I can share this with my flickr friends!

My colleague Renata Simic and I were making a TV feature about male ballet dancers in Zagreb. We visited the Croatian National Theatre where we had a chance to spend some time with the entire national ballet ensemble.

This wonderful lighthouse was taken several years ago when Bill and I took a whale watching cruise near Victoria, BC. I loved all the lighthouses that we saw along the way. I wish I could recall where we were, or the name of the lighthouse, but I do not. If anyone recognizes it, please let me know.

Thank you for your comments and critiques! I'm going to be late commenting because this afternoon is our annual car club picnic at our house. We are expecting about 80 people here. Wish us luck. :-)
Thanks to John Murphy for identifying this lighthouse. It is the Sister's Inlet Light house. Thanks John!!!!!!!!!!
Have a de-lightful day today my friends!
If you didn’t see the six-legged dog,
It doesn’t matter.
We did, and he mostly lay in the corner.
As for the extra legs,
One got used to them quickly
And thought of other things.
Like, what a cold, dark night
To be out at the fair.
Then the keeper threw a stick
And the dog went after it
On four legs, the other two flapping behind,
Which made one girl shriek with laughter.
She was drunk and so was the man
Who kept kissing her neck.
The dog got the stick and looked back at us.
And that was the whole show.

Hot chocolate in my new favorite mug. I bought it thrifting a few weeks ago and have grown to love it immensely, even though it has the most awkward octagonal top and, yes, is kind of cheesy. But, for some reason, I adore it. Vaguely eighties mug is totally bringing sexy back.
365 - Day 272
another journal made without the cover stock (as suggested in our on-line class), but with stablizer.
This was the first thing I made when I got my new sewing machine,
so had fun with some of the embroidery stitches!
The edges were a real challenge, but am still working on that!

So much new snow in the last week! This is on Simic Trail on Grouse, which goes up next to the Paper Trail ski run (unless they've renamed it). It was tough going without snowshoes, and shortly after this picture was taken I sunk into a hole up to my chest, so I ventured over to the well packed down BCMC trail.
