Trashed my old and trusty SGI Indy.

The label reads --

"PROHIBITED from direct or indirect connection to public telecommunication systems.Action may be taken against anyone so connecting this apparatus."

So 1997.

Imagine something similar today: "You are not allowed to connect your computer to the Internet". WTF!?

A great machine --

Thanks for the service.

This is the SGI Indy running with the Video-In application open, the camera it is connected to is a Flexcam, one of those cameras with a flexible goose-neck.

The one on top is the one hooked up and running, below it is another Indy I keep for spare parts and a Indigo2 Impact in Violet.

The SGI Indy is a 64bit machine, this one was manufactured in 1995 and contains a MIPS R5000 64bit RISC processor and is currently running IRIX 6.5.

Atop the monitor is a ITT phone, like the 2500 series phones that WeCo made, it rocks.

I won this auction a while ago and today it arrived! Two big heavy boxes...

Finally got it down to Reading after living in my Dad's garage for months. All the side panels were taken off for transport, hence the bare metal - Weighs a bloody ton this thing.

(Also known as an Onyx 2, but mine has Origin 2000 on the front)

This is an ASIC, just like the adjacent picture. ASICs are used to hook system components up to the backplane, or more specifically a communications bus on the backplane which contains other components.

This is an LIA9136 and if I recall, it's on a CPU card.

An SGI Octane (once priced in luxury car territory) next to my MacBook Pro. I lusted after SGI hardware for over a decade, and finally came across this one in my employer's storage warehouse.

Millions of people around the world have started "surfing" the web - claims this vintage fold-out brochure from Silicon Graphics in 1995.

With it's guts hanging out.

These things come apart to a remarkable degree, very easy to work on.

Is this cool or what? Got it from my old school when they were getting rid of all the O2's we used to run Maya on.

And yes, I'm actually using this one.

This is a pair of ASICs, they're used to hook system components up to the backplane, or more specifically a communications bus on the backplane which contains other components.

This is a pairr of LIA9527, whatever the hell they do!

Rear of my PC in an Octane shell workstation modification thingy, before modifications to make the rear panel fit more snugly.

Uhoh, it's a SGI!

Closer look at the Indy, the one on top is the one hooked up and running, below it is another Indy I keep for spare parts and a Indigo2 Impact in Violet.
