This sign is all that is left of a motel in Peabody, MA on route one. There are new chain hotels surrounding this sign but I guess none of them own this land.

HIgh key shot of a restaraunt sign in downtown South Bend.

Photographed with a NIkon F using a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF lens (obviously manually focused here). The film was Ilford Delta 3200 shot at EI 3200 and developed in HC-110. I was using the waist level finder with the neck strap acting to stabilize the camera. Exposure was 1/30 s at f/1.4. Scanned using Vuescan on a Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED. Film grain reduced using Noiseware.

My father's father José Signes García; from what I've heard he was the quintessencial Spanish peasant; his piece of advice that was handed down was "sigue el camino recto": follow the straight and narrow. He was present when Emilio Signes and Carmen Lagos visited Gata de Gorgos in 1936 but had to flee; he died a few years later before his son could ever see him again.

I assume the thing its swinging from is not original. Apparently much of Pompeii and Herculaneum is actually either reconstructed, not original or replicas. A lot of the original bits are in the museum in Naples.
