So many of these photos looked a lot clearer on my tiny camera previewing screen.
If you squint, there is a panty shot over on the right side.
i know im not the only one who thinks the new flickr layout is complete trash. Dr. Purp Thumb started the petition below: petitions.moveon.org/sign/change-flickr-back?source=s.fwd... Sing it, it only takes a few minutes and theres a chance the old layout will return.
Gainsborough Central sign on the gents toilets at the station back in 1969. The scaffolding is to keep the public from the area where the old Station Master's house had been recently demolished by the British Railways Board in order to avoid paying rates. This was an act of wanton vandalism, as the beautiful old station - built in 1849 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (later incorporated into the Great Central) - was one of the finest small stations in the whole of the British Isles. Worse was to follow in 1977 when the whole of the station, with the exception of the footbridge was flattened.
A good selection of vintage enamel signs for sale at this antiques emporium on the former RAF Hemswell base.
Just hanging out with the boys on a sunny morning...
Too bad about the unfortunate sign placement, and it's too big to clone out effectively.

Christmas 2014: "Desert Weirdness"
December 30: A snowy day in Joshua Tree.
High above the High Street in Wealdstone, a ghost sign for soap. Rustler, Hustler? Can't make it out, but Stop! You've forgotten it!
They've restored this ghost sign that was uncovered with a building demolition. I believe Coca-Cola paid for the restoration.
This is the first major sign that greets drivers as they arrive in Washington, DC via the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge.
The first three options lead into that famously tangled mess of highways southeast of the Kennedy Center. The signs themselves could be simplified: first, let's use a consistent font. The two EASTs are clearly different. I would also center them with the numbers in the highway symbols (66 and 50). I would consistently abbreviate Avenue - you see they use Ave with Constitution but spell it out with Independence. I'd always use Ave and keep it on the same line as Independence. Next, there's no need to indicate Downtown under 50 EAST - I'd consider E Street to be closer to downtown anyways.
That boxy truck on the left is used to move the concrete barriers two times every work day. They switch the direction of the middle lane since the traffic flow is lopsided, with more cars driving into the city in the morning and then flocking into Virginia at night. It would be interesting to see whether patterns have normalized as DC experiences a housing boom and Virginia experiences a jobs boom.
The Grade II Listed sign for the Court Road Industrial Estate.
This area was part of the Star Brick & Tile Works until the early 1970s. This sign dates from Phase III of the development of Cwmbran New Town and dates from c. 1985.
It is listed as "a classic example of post war design that exemplifies the spirit of the age of the Cwmbran new town development".

Here’s a look at the screen printing process. ADOT screen prints when there’s a need for multiples of the same sign.
Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA.
"The sign is much like the moon. It seems close enough at times to reach out and touch, and many try to bike or drive up there, but it always seems to be out of reach. In fact, it was not designed to be reached, only seen. When it was constructed in 1923, it read HOLLYWOODLAND. It was advertisment for a then-opulent subdivision owned in part by move-making mogul Mack Sennet." quotation from the book "Short bike rides. Los Angeles." by Robert Winning.
HOLLYWOODLAND was transformed into HOLLYWOOD in 1949 and replaced in 1978.
