This is a shot of the upper level of the side yard outdoor living area looking from the rear of the house (front yard is beyond the gate in the distance).

This level is covered by an open lattice patio making it a great spot to relax in the shade.

It is a beautiful, rainy, windy fall day and the colors are incredible!

The seating wall runs the length of the side yard. Behind the seating wall are planter railings to hold any planters/containers for the gardener types.

Taking advantage of Denver's tree-planting incentive program , we planted three new trees on the south side of our house. We hope that in years to come, the Stella Cherry, Red Bud, and Italian Plum tree will provide us with some shade, some added privacy, and hopefully some fruit. Probably won't be hanging a tire swing from this one next spring though...

We wanted to get a Willow tree to commemorate Willow's birth, but apparently they require crazy water. Also wanted a Catalpa, which do really well in Denver, though they look like tropical trees with lush canopies of heart-shaped leaves, but they get too big for our sideyard.
