Danbury Fair Mall Carnival

Some cheapo cake from the nearby bakery. Eugh.

This one's for Grumbo.

Joe Grumbo gave me this cool old Yashica "Electro 35". Isn't it awesome?

It appears they've discontinued the "5 V 6" mercury battery it requires. Anyone know where I can find one or an adapter for one?

Self-portrait: Japanese-Canadian-Israeli scholar, needleworker, lacemaker, spinner, weaver, and avid cook

The wooden object is a bit cryptic. It's a 19th cent. Canadian boat shuttle. I don't weave with it. It has some faint carving in it and is considered a piece of folk art. It was also the only Canadian object I could find at short notice.

The handkerchiefs with tatting and bobbin lace are my own work. The framed pieces are Teresa Wentzler's "English Garden Sampler" and my Ph.D. diploma. The book is one of the last things I wrote before I let the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Hebrew University to work in high tech. On top of the book is a small metal tahkli (spindle) and just behind it (darn, didn't realise it rolled back) is a bobbin for making bobbin lace. The red striped cloth is one of my aprons. The mortar and pestle, passport, and tea cup are pretty self-explanatory, I think.

I have oodles more hobbies I thought of but there's a limit to how much one can fit in a picture! :-)

On my Garage Photoshoot with my photo group called the Ottawa Shutterbugs, I had the chance to photograph this great looking model, some on my Triumph motorcycle.

The leaves are beginning to change to their Autumn colors.

Lentil Crunchies

1 c lentils (not red)

1 quart water

Cooking spray of your choice (I used olive oil)

¼ tsp onion powder

¼ tsp curry powder

1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Place water and lentils in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, cover, remove from heat, and let sit for 15 minutes. Drain and spread out on paper towels to dry. Line a cookie sheet with foil. Spray well with cooking spray. Spread out lentils on sheet and give them a light coating of cooking spray. Bake in a 425 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, until crisp, stirring often. Combine seasonings and toss with hot lentils. Cool and store in a airtight container. It's a wonderful little salty snack!

Joe Farace's review of my work/site in the January 2007 issue of Shutterbug:

"Wrapped in a chic site design, Corey Civetta's portraits of children, babies, and toddlers is a living testament that pictures of kids don't have to be of the "say cheese" variety and can be as introspective as adult portraiture. The Beginnings gallery showcases sensitive color maternity photographs as well as expressive monochrome images of newborns, while Babies & Toddlers is filled with cute images of little kids that successfully transcend shopping mall "kiddie" photographs so even the most blase' parent will be able to see the difference. The Children gallery combines color and monochrome stylings blending documentary and traditional portrait styles to create it's very own genre. Yes, it's that good.

In another synthesis of styles, Civetta adds a touch of fashion photography to portraits of "tweens & teens" without making them look like kids pretending to be adults. The Etcetera section shows that she can make portraits of grown-ups, too, but it's the kids who are clearly the stars and the heartbeat of Civetta's work. The site design, while exemplary, can be slow to load even with a broadband connection, but not annoyingly so. She's not shy and posts her affordable rates. Civetta is a member of the International Registry of Children's Photographers (irocp.com), an organization that promotes the highest standards of children's portraiture."
