fuego donna is working on a moonlight capture..

I turn my camera and capture her. This is a 13 secs capture! It's amazing how steady and preoccupied she stands.

Steptoe Butte is a famous landscape photographers paradise. I'd never been there before but had heard about the place for many years. I was not alone. Vans full of workshop photographers descended upon the site and stood tripod leg to tripod leg. I shot the sunset the day before and tried again this morning for the sunrise. Unfortunately the sunrise was at 4:59 am so I had to get up at 4:00 and get my wits about me to face the inevitable herd of shutterbugs. And, in fact, they were already lined up waiting to capture the magical orb ascending above the horizon. Well, it wasn't particularly dramatic so immediately after the sun hit the cloud line it was back on the bus for them. But about a half an hour later the sun started peeking through the clouds at various places and only myself and one other person were there for this interesting effect. Patience sometimes does pay off.

Now on newsstands, Shutterbug magazine's "Expert Photo Techniques" issue contains a flattering 4-page interview with me about the past, present and future of light painted night photography. The issue also contains interviews with other NP/LPers Lance Keimig, Darren Pearson and Larrie Thomson: lotsa good reading for any night shooter. Read the entire article as a pdf here.

Mom screamed, rushed into my room and said theres a monster in the house and I needed to kill it... I walked out and saw this little guy on the ceiling and said "Pshhh, I'm not killing it! He's gonna be tonights model!" LOL

Yesterday I decided to head out with Mel Sinclair to find some storms out West. Predictions had been for a severe day. We saw a front coming from Warwick and decided to head that way using the radar only - by luck we decided that going over Cunningham's Gap would be a bad choice and instead headed around Lake Moogerah. Here it caught up to us and it intensified over the mountains. Staying well back we decided to head away from the storm and watch from a distance. It continued on its path to eventually come straight through the Brisbane CBD where it dumped heavy rain, hail and produced a nice rainbow afterwards.

This is the storm cell about to cover the Brisbane CBD. We got some hail and we just made it here in time to capture it - it was certainly a fast moving cell.

It's been a while since I visited the Wildlife Refuge so I decided to pay a visit yesterday afternoon. When I got there, these fellow shutterbugs were already there.

Have a wonderful day everyone! Thank you so much for stopping by!
