The Shell Project - Originally started as an exercise to test some of the features of my new Casio point and shoot camera but turned into an extended study of a single abalone shell. The series shows the results of photographing that shell at different focusing modes and lighting conditions.

Table setting for "girls night in" sponsored by my daughter H, and her two friends who spent a few weeks with me here in Shell this summer. I so enjoyed their energy, observations, company, conversations and presence!

Bakkum is a nice beach in the West of the Netherlands. Lots of shells mixed with the sand and a landscape of the sea and the modern windmills (responsible for more that 6% of the total energy produced in the country).

The image was created using a 8x zoom lens and manual focus.

Lots of shells up here. There were a lot of "no shooting" signs on the road, too -- this is a popular activity in this area, but I didn't hear any shots fired.

(not what you think)

I found this shell while walking on St. Thomas, USVI right before I slipped into the edge of the water and poked my foot on a sea urchin. It hurt so bad I thought I would see a giant pool of blood in the water. At first I thought I cut my foot but it also felt like I was getting stung by bees at the same time. Anyway I stopped and looked at my foot and saw five dots and then I looked in the water and figured it out.
