Yet another Galapagos LO. I am getting perilously close to getting this album done! These are shots taken at the visitor center of the Tortoise Preserve in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island. My son and duaghter (top right and top left) got a real kick out of doing this....
Wikipedia: Shell Falls is a waterfall in the Bighorn National Forest on Shell Creek, about halfway down Shell Canyon, and a few miles upstream from the town of Shell in northeast Wyoming. The falls are 120 feet (36 meters) in height and tumble over basement rock of granite. The people visible on the promenade give this picture some scale.
Collected over many years - some from British beaches, some more exotic. Tend to just take photos these days - need less space and dont collect dust!
Saigon Duck Egg Shell Handicraft Center, in the country outside Ho Chi Minh, City, Vietnam. January 2023.
Using Rose wood as a base, the duck shell is carefully crushed onto lacquer to make beautiful art. Different coloured shells make the art, with occasional mother-of-pearl, or painting over the top. This is then lacquered, and the lacquer filed off over the art – this is repeated 24 times and then polished. I couldn’t resist purchasing one piece – 50% of the money going to the disabled and victims of Agent Orange.
Just a line of shells I saw on some rocks in Pembrokeshire which I thought had an interesting look about them.
