A great green turban gastropod shell, Turbo marmoratus. The outer layers have been stripped to show the nacre with carved filigree on the widest body whorl and Andamans carved just below the apex.

Shell Cracker (red eared sunfish) caught in Prince William County on May 1, 2009

Many cool shells there that day. I wonder if this one is there because there is a hole in the rock, or if there is a hole in the rock because it is there.

A small Minneapolis-Moline Sheller I found on the internet.

Lots of poor people drop by my office trying to make a bit of money by selling all sorts of stuff like snacks and trivialities like this desk decor made from shells. According to the letter handed to me by the fellow who sold this to me, it was crafted by prison inmates as part of a livelihood program set up for them.

Taken at Benone, Northern Ireland.

I loved this place. This picture will always remind me of summer. Always.

Shells can be a nice decoration.

Another shot of the truck mounted sheller at McHenry County Vintage Car Gazette. I read somewhere that this had a Continental engine in it.

Close up of a Razor Shell (Ensis siliqua) Linnaeus, 1758

We have loads of Razor Shells on Rhyl Beach, and the winter storms wash the empty shells up in their millions. They're usually bleached white and rubbed smooth, but this fresh one still had it's beautiful pale olive coating - despite which, I decided to do the images in Black & White!

The Razor shell is very confusingly named, and to be honest, you're best rearching by latin name, as every country seems to have it's own interpretation of what a Razor Shell is!

Anglers call them "Razorfish" just to confuse everybody, when they are of course Bivalves/Molluscs.

Other common names in use include Pod Razor, Razor and Razor Clam
