Back in 1990 hopeful property developers, sensing that a coming American airbase brought with it great riches, built a space-ship shaped restaurant on the side of the A14 motorway. This restaurant was called Megatron.

As a 9 years old Bryony Kimmings remembers the hysteria this Mecca of overpriced hamburgers, complete with touch screen ordering and robot waiters, brought to her town, the lasting memory however was its sad demise.

Bryony Kimmings invites you to become her 9-year-old self, pull on a shell suit, grab a Walkman and embark on a trip down memory lane. This is a coming of age tale one hot summer, schoolgirl dreams and those moments in life when the magnificent becomes the mundane.

* Individual audio experience. Please collect shell suit and headphones from the J2 Box Office. Available 11am - 5pm Sat 22 - Wed 26 Oct.

Shells from either Maine or Cape Cod. There's what looked to be a worm fossil under the big shell - but turned out to be just a sand trail.

Discovered in 1835, Margate's Shell Grotto is an astonishing find; 21 metres of winding passages decorated with 4.6 million shells. The walls are covered in images of gods and goddesses, trees of life and patterns of whelks, mussels and oysters. Some think it is an ancient Pagan grotto, others that it is simply an ornate Regency folly; but with no definitive explanation or history, the Shell Grotto is Kent's greatest mystery.

The carved-stone ‘Shell Fountain’, which resides in the beautiful Italian Gardens on the south side of the island, was not originally intended for that placement. Originally there were two, large carved shells – one on each side of the Arch. Over the years vandals destroyed or stole many of the architectural elements on the island and these were lost as well. Over 70 years later, the Thousand Island Bridge Authority found one of them, still intact, on the bottom of the Heart Island Lagoon and incorporated it into the ‘wishing well’ that it is now.
