This beach is made up of billions of cockle shells in some places layered up to 8 metres and stretching for over 120 kms.

This is pretty much out of camera. Thought I should let that be known before anyone claims I made her look good. No.. she is this gorgeous in real life. I didn't mess with her body or change the shape with photoshop. I touched up a small bruise or two that she had and light edit but that's pretty much it. Gorgeous. it's rare when you meet someone that looks as good as her modeling photos.
This picture was taken at a place locally known as "the end of the earth." The literal Shell beach is consumed by the waters but the geographical name remains. It is the place chosen for the Memorial to Hurricane Katrina Victims from St Bernard Parish.
This Cormorant sunned itself on the posted and while I had other images of the Double-crested I took this one because of the closeness and the classic pose.

The Double-crested Cormorant is found near rivers, lakes and along the coastline. It mainly eats fish and hunts by swimming and diving. Its feathers, like those of all cormorants, are not waterproof and it must spend time drying them out after spending time in the water. Once threatened by use of DDT, the numbers of this bird have increased markedly in recent years. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-crested_Cormorant
The gangly Double-crested Cormorant is a prehistoric-looking, matte-black fishing bird with yellow-orange facial skin. Though they look like a combination of a goose and a loon, they are relatives of frigatebirds and boobies and are a common sight around fresh and salt water across North America—perhaps attracting the most attention when they stand on docks, rocky islands, and channel markers, their wings spread out to dry. Just as I was taking a photo of people wading into the salty water (and getting nowhere as it was knee deep for about a mile out), a girl from the bus ran in front to take a picture of the rest of us looking out.
This was the sunset on 1/16/10 from the point near Dinosaur Caves Park in Shell Beach. There was a week long storm on the horizon, and the colors were amazing. It was the last time that we saw the sun for almost a week, but it left us with some great memories.
The image is an HDR panorama with the HDRs created in Photomatix, and then the images stitched in Photoshop CS3. This was the first time that I tried a new approach, merging the photos using default settings only, and then doing all color correction and adjustments in photoshop and aperture.
Please share your thoughts with me regarding this image, both complements and criticisms. I appreciate the feedback.
Our boat anchored in front of Blackberry Point beach. If it's calm and not big strong winds, anchoring is not bad while you picnic.
