Shell Beach / Central Coast / Calif

The sun weighs down a sky of twisted clouds as we get a break from the summer fog. Avila and Port San Luis dominate the distant horizon.

I took a little road trip to Shell Beach which is appx 25 miles

south east of New Orleans proper. A hard hit fishing community.

There is a Hurricane Katrina memorial at the end of Yscloskey Hwy....

both on shore and in the water. It's also an area where fishermen take

their boats out to the giant Lake Borgne, it is along the Mississippi River

-Gulf Outlet (MRGO) which is an inlet the leads to the Gulf Of Mexico.

This was long before the beach in the background turned into a clothing optional spot. The obstreperous one in front is me. I love the colors of old Kodachrome, remarkably well-preserved after almost 60 years.

Her beak is hidden by a ridge of rock. She is warming several chicks here. The pink on the chick to the left is from a flower that I could not get out of the camera's field without falling off the cliff. Shell Beach, California

Surfers walk past a big-rig truck on the beach at the base of Silver Shoals Drive in Shell Beach after the truck's brakes failed causing it to coast down the street above before plummeting off the cliff. Nobody was hurt in the wreck.

While most people were out partying on New Year's Eve, I spent a quiet, delightful evening in Shell Beach watching the final sunset of 2011. I feel so blessed to live along the spectacular California Central Coast. This image was taken near the so-called "Three Palms Beach" during a wonderful winter minus tide. The tide pools reflected in the rocks were just gorgeous that last night of the year.

This image is comprised of a series of HDR bracketed exposures processed in Photomatix, Lightroom, Photoshop, and onOne Software. What a sweet ending to the year!
