Part of the Geo Park in Wai Kung.

If you are looking for an island with great white sand beaches, clear water swimming and a little adventure, Sharp island is for you. Just a short trip from Sai Kung pier, this is a great getaway both for sun seekers and hikers – even better if you want both.

My best gal Zorki's goin' out tonite to a mexican fandango party, an' she's all deuced-up in her finest Leica party frock, an' high-heeled Voigtlander dancin' shoes.

The old gal's real excited, and has a couple of top-notch E's and a bottle of the highest octane russian vodka hidden in her handbag, for essential enlivenin' purposes.

When it's party-time, these real ol' skool russian ladies know better than most that, to paraphrase ZZ Top: "...every man crazy 'bout a sharp dressed girl."

Here is a sharp-shinned Juvenile from Blackie Spit.

Sharp-shinned hawks are smaller than Cooper's hawks, and this one was tiny - about the size of a skinny pigeon. I saw him flying at great speed and incredible manoueverability over and around this fence, being persued by a crow. He succeeded in evading the crow, and then had a brief rest on the fence, luckily for me.

This one is for a true flickr legend Dustin Diaz. Because of Dustin and his awesome 365 project I have embraced off-camera flash and in the process (I'm hopeful) taken my photography to a new level. I have (and still do) spend an inordinate amount of time studying his photos and diagrams. In a very small way my Project Eighty-Five is a way for me to give something back to those just starting out. Thanks Dustin you're a true inspiration! This one's for you. :)

This is my new Nikkor 16-35 f/4 AF-S VR G ED IF N Aspherical Lens. That's a mouthful!

Incredible lens that's tack sharp. Google it for the reviews or search the tags here on Flickr.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to use it except for the strobist diagrams. Soon.

I'm beat. Time for some much needed sleep.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments and faves. I promise to catch up on your streams this week. Night.

While I was waiting for the crakes to come out into the open, this very confiding Sharpie would continually come in very close while it foraged for insects along the water's edge.

The Nikon D4 is amazing! It never misses a shot! And the 600mm nikkor prime was amazingly fast! I shot at ISO 200 fully open at F4 and many of these photos were shot at 1/4000 s or 1/5000 s! Amazingly sharp & detailed!

This well travelled vehicle from Sharpes Coaches of Nottingham, was leaving Dover Eastern Docks while on its way back from Europe, and is another one where I bothered with it because it was colourful-ish.

I am fairly certain that this one is a male Sharp-shinned Hawk. It was about the size of a Blue Jay.

A large female Sharp-shinned Hawk overlaps in size with a small male Cooper's Hawk, and a large female Coopers's Hawk overlaps with a small male Northern Goshawk.

A Cooper's Hawk would have thinner and darker breast streaks and a longer rounded tail.

Sharp-shinned Hawks capture their prey from cover or while flying quickly through dense vegetation. They have thick short wings and are adept at navigating dense thickets. The great majority of this hawk's prey is small birds, especially various songbirds such as sparrows, warblers and robins. They also catch lizards, small mammals and various insects.

Cooper's Hawks share the environment with the Sharp-shinned Hawks but can take larger prey as well including jays, woodpeckers, starlings, quail, and doves. The birds they prey on can range in size from warblers to Ring-necked Pheasants. They also eat mammals like chipmunks, hares, mice, squirrels, and bats.

It's been a couple of months since I have had a chance to photograph one of the neighborhood hawks. This one showed up this morning and sat on my fence for a few brief moments allowing me a few quick clicks through the sliding glass doors.

Sharp Shot never needs to close one eye to line up his shot.

He takes his role as a protector of nature very seriously, sometimes a bit too seriously. When he notices another Mixel even so much as bump a shrub, you can be sure they'll have a sharp arrow and a stern warning pointed their way within seconds.

First test of DIY Arduino based macro rail of my design using magnification 10:1 on a crop DSLR. (Nikon 10x/0.25 M Plan objective with 175mm distance to the sensor of Canon 50D.) There are ~250 shots used here, with a step of 5 um. I used FRSP (electronic shutter) feature of Magic Lantern with an external flash - so I didn't use at all the shutter of my camera for the whole stack.

From these tests it does look like my macro rail works well with steps as small as 5 um (or magnifications as high as 10:1).

Not much going on out there these days, but if you persevere something interesting always turns up. This little hawk surprised me by perching very close to me on a fence rail, and when he flew off, I really wasn't expecting him to land in the field almost as close as when he was perched.

A trio of goods wagon chassis at Sharpness Docks, Gloucestershire. April 1991.

This is a hefty radio. Larger than most coat pocket sets but smaller than a "lunch box" portable. It has AM and SW bands. The entire upper slide rule dial is reverse painted which is separated from the anodized aluminum speaker grill by a thin brass band.

Although my photos don't show it well, the speaker grille is navy blue.

It is a nice compliment to the grey cabinet (sometime appears to have lavender shades in certain light) and white dial.

I have also spotted this radio in two other colour options - forest green cabinet with non anodized/non painted speaker grille and white cabinet with black reverse painted dial with non anodized grille.

I found this at a flea market sitting in a pile of junk and dirt.. It took many hours to clean.

Also found under the Coronado brand name with the rather long model number RA50-9907 and as a Truetone DC-3050.

Just testing the sharpness of that Panasonic Lumix G Vario 35-100/F2.8 lens. I'm quite happy with it now. No additional sharpening or cropping applied. Just slightly adjusted exposure. RAW Processed with Apple Aperture.
