Recently I have watched Sharp-shinned Hawks migrate down the west side of Lake Winnipeg. They are fun to watch because of their speed, their agility, and penchants to change altitude and turn sharply. Often they come at you from odd angles.
However, most of the shot opportunities are from considerable distance.

Llanos Orientales in eastern Colombia
a peculiar ibis with a long tail that is patchly distributed in areas of northern South America east of the Andes.
It is not closely related to other better known ibis species of Latin America.
It has a remarkably loud call when perched or foraging and also calls loudly in flight.

This hawk flew into a tree somewhat near me. I approached for shots, but it was nearly directly aligned with the sun; did the best I could for the backlight. It was chased into, then soon chased out of, that tree by a small flock of swallows. I'm pretty sure that this is a sharp-shinned hawk, based on its legs and tail tip... Correct me if I'm wrong!
This sharp-shinned hawk was possibly taking a break from a migratory flight south when it roosted in a tree at the east side of my house yesterday. It spent several minutes busily preening itself, and every once in a while glancing around. It was a shame that the light was so bad. I would have loved getting sharper shots against a beautiful blue sky.

A Sharp-tailed Grouse (Tympanuchus phasianellus) arrives on the dancing ground or lek situated on the prairie landscape near Leader, Alberta, Canada.
A group of males will set up territories on the grassland and conduct a series of dances to mark out their limited territory or to draw the interest of a prospective mate.
This is the first of three images of the dancing ground encounter with this species.
