South Africa and Western Australia, the two sites for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), share the same southern geographic latitude. Therefore, they also share the same night sky, albeit with a time difference of about 6 hours.
Since the early days of human presence in these parts of the world, the indigenous peoples have seen the same constellations, the Milky Way and the planets wheel overhead;
first in Australia and a few hours later in South Africa. This is a powerful idea that lets the imagination run free in these days of international collaboration in building the largest radio telescope the world has ever seen: the Square Kilometre Array.
A recent exhibition, 'Shared Sky', brings together works of art by indigenous artists from both areas in a magnificent collection, as breathtaking as the sky itself.
The Yamaji and other aboriginal artists have contributed paintings that are done in the typical colourful pointillistic style on phenomena in the sky, like the stars, planets, sun and moon and the Emu in the sky: the Milky Way.
The descendants of San people of the Karoo in South Africa have contributed artworks done in textiles, depicting stories of creation and ancient celestial culture.
The exhibition was opened last month in Perth, Australia at the John Curtin Gallery and will ultimately travel to all corners of the globe. Next stop South Africa. More background information can be found on the website of the SKA: www.skatelescope.org/shared-sky/
I make lots of cake, most leave the house as will this one will be heading to the local pub later. This is chocolate sponge with chocolate filling, rich chocolate icing and mini daim bars.....in case there wasn't enough chocolate.
Here is the sharing bit, the covering from this is very simple and warm is great on ice cream and cake and people if not too warm and you are daring !
3oz butter
2oz of cocoa sieved
6 tablespoons of milk
8oz of sieved icing sugar
Melt butter in small pan, stir in the cocoa and cook gently for I minute, remove pan from the heat, stir in milk and icing sugar. Mix well till you get the desired consistency, as it cools it thickens.

Visited a girls school run by Spanish nuns where we had donated a computer room. Saw these two at lunch time sharing something in one of the back packs. All the girls had very short hair like these two. A requirement Of the school.

I went over the Highland Park today as I figured I'd find some Autumn Crocuses in bloom. Indeed there were some. But look at what else I found - a ready-made composition that an earlier photographer had set up - fall leaves, some fruit from a nearby tree..and...an Autumn Crocus! I didn't see how I could improve on that set-up.
I also felt a nice connection with an unseen photographer. So, whoever you are, I thank you for my picture

I think the best comfort of home and living alone is being able to suit myself - even my domestic quirks. I like the corners of my house that I share with spiders. Not every corner has webs, but some of them do.

Our Anna's the Care Bears of the flying world. Typically, they'll chase each other a bit, but sharing is the operative word (once a certain population 'tipping point' is achieved)
However, over last month or so I've been waging war with one particular big, bold Red Headed A**Hole Hummer. He's right in front of my kitchen sink so I've had an ever-escalating arena of powerful water guns to try and drive him away. No luck he absolutely OWNS two of these feeders and will lay in ambush to any unfortunate unlucky enough to approach. He's got his hiding spot in the same branch and is a very worthy opponent!
