Wanted to test the Biketown system on a day with record amount of snow on the ground (about a foot or so).

ps I think I've found my favorite pie crust recipe! It's from caprial pence, a nw chef, and it is so good. It calls for 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening, and no sugar. (I use cold pressed vegetable shortening.) One of my resolutions this year was to improve my pie baking skills, and this crust has helped a lot. Up next, blueberry, my favorite. And this crust will be soo good with fall apples.
There were 8-10 break out groups during the discussion portion of the event. This one focused on the entrance of large corporations into the sharing economy, e.g. with Avis Car Rentals buying out Zipcar, the nation's largest car-sharing company.

I wasn't planning on doing umbrella shots, but it was raining and K had an umbrella handy right in the garage so I thought why not. I'm glad we did these!

While butterflies have been scarce this year, bees have not, finding an abundance of wildflowers to attract their attention, many of which seem to have consolidated their arrival into a more concentrated period given the brevity of our summer. There is an overlapping of species blooming which I've not noticed before, much to the pleasure of the bees and a wide variety of other insects which enjoy the display as much as we do...actually probably more. I've assembled a goodly collection of "flowers w/insects" shots and should probably assemble a series before they vanish into the oblivion of my archives.
But for now, a few SOOC shots (one in comments) of a couple of buddies enjoying the offerings of what is either a freshly bloomed woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus) or tickseed sunflower (Bidens coronata). I can never tell the difference. But I do know it is one of those flowers that for some reason always photographs well needing no editing...characteristic of all the sunflowers. A photogenic and ego gratifying floral group to be sure. ;-)
