With the professional driving services of the sdl39hogger, I was able to snap off some pace shots of a short 290 train west of Ixonia.

I'm now fully resigned to the fact that this sort of thing will be as close to a sunset picture I'll ever get without traveling a fair distance....Sigh!

Today is setting day here on PEI!

Setting day marks the opening day of the lobster fishing industry for over 1,200 Island fishermen who have patiently waited through the winter to get out on the water. From the 45 ports and wharf of PEI boats will head out with their traps for the fishing grounds, and everyone on shore will wait in anticipation for the first lobster feed of the season!

I was setting the lunitidal value for my new casio watch so that it would tell the moon and tidal phase accurately. I found it very hard to find the settings on the net so I shall share it here.

Time zone +8

Fall Festival for the Arts

Just found out these settings from a good friend of mine. Also another Mac Genius. ^^. Open up Exposé and Spaces in System Preferences. Hold down the Control/Alt/Command key when selecting secondary mouse button. Once these settings are done, hold down the corresponding key and perform a right click. Exposé back again on your fingertips. The same can be done for Spaces. I used shift. But you can use whichever combination you fancy.

A very simple scene taken shortly after sunset on the Leeward side of Oahu, Hawaii. If only you could actually feel the sand between your toes and the warm water rush over your feet.

Sunset at Lower Pierce Reservoir, Singapore. Still playing with the exposure level.

The setting Sun on the left is the key light here, one canon 580ex II as on-axis fill on camera with head tilted right to feather the light.

Or setting the brakes.....I like the mood of these really low light shots so I had to post one. A446 with CSX dash 8's is just about to set the brakes, while the Coke empties with the CN 5725 wait for a crew to get rested to depart later today.

Background Story: Tyshen are odd magical beings, whose origins are unknown. Many people theorize how these beings came to be, but there is no definitive proof to these theories. Although the Tyshen are quite powerful with magic, they are unable to utilize their magic alone. In order to obtain access to their arsenal of magical abilities the Tyshen must form a special bond with a human. In the beginning humans and their Tyshen worked together and treated one another like friends. Though as time passed humans became more and more greedy, with their desire for power. Now days many of the Tyshen are treated more like tools. Often times pushed to their limits in their 'masters' desire for more power. Due to the fact that only the human can break the bond between them, many of the Tyshen have been forced to accept this type of treatment from their humans in order to survive this world. Though what few realize is that the stronger the bond between the two, the stronger the Tyshen become. This strength however starts over when a Tyshen creates a bond to a new human.(WIP suggestions welcome)

Modern Background: Back when magic roamed freely throughout the land a great war broke out between the Tyshen, their masters, and those that sought to use them for evil deeds against others. Many fell victim to these horrible deeds, but in the end the Tyshen faded into myth.... Or so it was believed. Shortly after the war ended, the many of the Tyshen with their newly found freedom, became extremely picky over who they would bond with. Many blended in with their surroundings, appearing to be nothing more than a simple villager, or townsfolk. Years passed and occasionally stories would rise about strange beings, but for the most part they were simply brushed off as ramblings of a lunatic. Due to the many years of being nothing more than myth, many of the Tyshen have become restless. It seems as though they have forgotten why they have become so weary about creating bonds, or they just don't care. Slowly they have begun creating bonds with humans. Some urging their new found masters to wreak havoc upon unsuspecting people, while others simply have a bad judge of character. Things are beginning to stir, and it appears as though history is doomed to repeat itself.

Beatrix's Story: Looking like a creature from a Frankenstein movie, Beatrix has earned herself the name 'Metallic Doll'. She's pretty strong against most types of magic, though seems to be the weakest when fighting either a fire, ice, or water magic user. Like all of the other Tyshen she must rely on a human to utilize her magic, but unlike most Tyshen she has no emotion of her own. The reason behind her nickname is quite obvious to those that know her. Her magic is based around metal, and in many ways she acts like a doll mainly in the sense that she cannot feel or express emotion without a human to feed off of. The only real emotion she can express on her own, is curiosity, and the drive to protect her human. (WIP)

The last bit of sunlight on the property where my wife and I reside.

The locks is also home to the Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Garden — a beautiful park-like setting and a great escape from the city.

You can lounge on the grass and watch the boats go by. The Ballard Locks also features a visitor’s center with interpretive exhibits and a gift shop. Visiting hours for the locks and surrounding garden is 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. year-round. The fish ladder is open 7 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. year-round. Admission is free.

After the locks were built in 1911, landscape architect Carl English of the United States Army Corps of Engineers transformed the construction site into garden in an English landscape style. All told, he spent 43 years planting and tending the gardens. Today they contain more than 500 species and 1,500 varieties of plants from around the world, including fan palms, oaks, Mexican pines, rhododendrons, and a fine display of roses. The gardens also exhibit an extensive fuchsia display and a special section for lilies in season.
