A series of blue stakes help to mark the path of a setback levee alignment being constructed to restore the originally designed level of flood risk reduction to Missouri River Levee Unit L-575 near Hamburg, Iowa.
Somehow my iPhone development stuff got botched. So now I'm trying to get it up and running again.
Internet here is dreadfully slow... I'm used to nearly 10X this :(

Elephant Seal Beach after strong tide/storm event. Seal numbers dramatically down.
Recent storms and high tides have wrought significant damage by savaging, especially, the pups, that are ripped away from their mothers by the turbulent water. The survivors have sought shelter as far up the remaining beach as possible.

as you can see, my primitive firing experiment has encountered a temporary setback. nice colour, shame about the hairline cracks...
This kitchen remodel, was very nearly the death of me. :)
For those that know me well, know all the morbid details and setbacks. It took a few years, and it's been a few weeks finished now and I am LOVING IT! It is a beautiful space.
This photo only shows half the space. I've been wanting to post a photo of it for awhile now but thought just a regular kitchen photo would be a bit boring.
I fear the details of the remodel would be too long for this space and anyway, you might not be all that interested. Just ask if you really want to know.
Here are some juicy bits: Ikea cabinetry, marble backspash, PaperStone countertop - this one is black (that's right! - recycled paper!), cork flooring, recessed lighting, two fixtures (www.schoolhouseelectric.com (Stretto)), under counter lighting, dimmer switches, notice - no plugs - all under cabinet mounting, uber quiet Bosch dishwasher (can't even hear it running), convection oven, damper drawers and hinges, Tiffany Blue walls, that's a slider door to the deck off to the right which gives tons of natural light... sink details to come, along with the other side of the kitchen.
The bulk of the work, was done by my brother-in-law, hubbie and myself.
As you can see, I Got Everything I Wanted and More
First test assembly, one diagonal brace left to fit & the bolt heads to be recessed in on the side members.

Finally, after many setbacks and delays, my parish of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Kailua debuted its long anticipated Scriptural Rosary DVD.
Completely produced by our parishioners and parochial school students, it was truly a work of faith - the blessed fruit of several individuals' devotion to Our Lady... and our monthly First Saturday Rosary for Peace.
All proceeds from the sale of these DVDs will go to the St. Anthony of Padua School Scholarship Fund to aid deserving children in receiving a quality Christian education. For more information, click here.

Other title: Woolworth Building (New York, N.Y.)
Creator: Gilbert, Cass, 1859-1934
Date: 1910-1913
Current location: New York City, New York, United States
Description of work: Through shrewd control of proportions, setbacks, window groupings, and vertical articulation, Gilbert produced a building that is both a 29-story office block and a huge, 50-story, stepped tower that rises through the block. Of particular note in achieving this effect is the way the narrow-wide-narrow spacing of the tower articulation is extended down through the substructure. There verticalism is reinforced by the lavish, but delicate, white terra-cotta Gothic detail, which clothes the building with fine vertical lines; these are overspun at intervals by crisp stringcourses and fluid runs of suspended Gothic canopies, with subtle decorative accents gathering in richness toward the top. The various Gothic formulae were exploited, Gilbert explained, to make what was dubbed the "Cathedral of Commerce" ever more "spiritual." (Trachtenberg, Marvin. Architecture, From Prehistory to Postmodernity. 2nd Ed. Prentice-Hall Inc. 2002. pg 526)

Here is a setback in my head gasket replacement project. The reason I undertook to replace my own failed head gasket was because of the age of the car. The other reason was because I do have enough knowledge and tools to fix this problem.
I knew that I could replace a blown head gasket for approximately $100- $200 instead of $1000-$1500, charged by the shop. In other words, I'm trying to trade time for money savings.
However, the average home mechanic such as myself doesn't have experience that the shop has. A trained shop mechanic sees problems such as a blown head gasket every day. I see this hopefully no more than once every 10 years. (Assuming I have 2 or more vehicles at home.) I was aware that I would not have experience so I tried to be extra careful.
The problem started when I filled the radiator with coolant. I noticed antifreeze leaking between the intake manifold and the head. A re-torque of the manifold seemed to fix the problem. But, when I turned the engine it rotated ¼ turn, then locked.
At first I was afraid a problem with the timing chain developed. Later, after pulling plugs, it became clear there was antifreeze coolant leaking into cylinder #4.
I had to re-disassemble the intake manifold. Sure enough there was standing water in the intake valve. Leaking gasket.
Here is what happened, I forgot to remove the old gasket from the Intake manifold. I had spent 1 hour removing the old gasket from the head. The old gasket had been put on with Permatex gasket sealant. The sealant makes removing the old gasket very difficult.
I knew the old gasket had to be removed for the new gasket to seal properly. I just flat forgot the obvious need to clean the Intake manifold. I am very fortunate to not have a broken or bent rod.

An early morning wakeup got us out of the door and on our way to catch the first of two flights. It was morning, but there was still three hours or more of darkness left in the sky. The first flight was a short two hour flight from Orlando, Florida to Washington, DC. The second flight would be seven times longer than that. There was only one hour and ten minutes between connecting flights, so any delay would domino into a series of major travel setbacks on the destination end of this trip. We gave ourselves a comfortable two-hour cushion to catch the first airplane.
While driving south on Interstate Highway 95, we were talking about how the 14-hour flight would not seem too bad if we compared it to our customary 26-hour sail from Miami to Nassau in the Bahamas.
Jill had just said, "At least we don't have to be awake to watch for other traffic during this trip", when the brake lights of the long-haul truck ahead of us suddenly glowed brightly. I quickly summoned the Jeep’s brakes. Through the early morning darkness I could see a cloud of dust in the median ahead to my left. Everything on the highway came to a complete stop. I stopped the Jeep a few yards behind the huge truck ahead, which had fishtailed on the roadway to avoid becoming part the calamity on the dark road ahead.
The calamity was caused by two large eighteen-wheel cargo haulers hitting each other at very high speeds. I can only speculate that one or both of the drivers fell asleep after driving all night. The result was a lot of debris strewn all across the highway, the right lane blocked by a smashed transfer truck and the left median littered with the bent trailer and cab of the other freight carrier.
Just like that, the two-hour cushion we had given ourselves to catch the first flight didn't seem to be enough. The truck ahead of us moved to the edge of the highway. Its driver got out to help. Lights of emergency vehicles were already approaching from the opposite direction. There was a slim opening amongst the debris. In my judgment there was just enough room for the jeep to squeeze by and gain access to the empty highway ahead. A crowd of drivers gathered around the two hapless truck cabs as I maneuvered the Jeep past the scene. We gingerly missed unrecognizable cargo lying in the left lane and broke free of the fiasco just as a police car pulled across the median and blocked the lane behind us. If I would have waited another minute to make my move through the wreckage, I am sure we would have missed our flights; both of them. I said a silent prayer for the two truck drivers, and then pressed down on the gas pedal to take advantage of the empty highway ahead of us.
We still had our two our cushion after we went through airport security. We had time to have a little breakfast, the first of many meals that would be a big part of the next two weeks.

Built in 1937, this Streamline Moderne or Art Moderne-style building was designed by Lawrence Monberg for Dr. Abraham Quisling, and is known as Quisling Towers. The building is one of three notable Art Moderne-style buildings designed by Monberg for the Quisling family, whom were prominent physicians of Norwegian descent in Madison during the mid-20th Century. The building originally housed twenty-six apartment units, and despite a few systems and features being modernized, the building retains most of its historic character-defining elements. The building was built of fire resistant hollow clay tile, a common building material at the time, with plaster on the interior and buff brick cladding with terra cotta and bedford limestone trim on the exterior obscuring the structural material. The building sits on a sloped site, being six stories in height in the rear, along a private drive off of Wisconsin Avenue, and five stories in the front, along Gilman Street.
The building features a buff brick exterior with corner bands of windows featuring horizontal fins that create strong visual horizontal emphasis at the building’s corners, with casement, one-over-one double-hung, and fixed windows being present on various parts of the building. The building’s front entrance is along Gilman Avenue, flanked by low stone walls and featuring a suspended semi-circular aluminum canopy above, with semi-circular door handles and sidelights. The building’s facade is broken by thin belt coursing at the top and bottom of the windows on most of the floors, which features soldier brick courses between the second and third floors. At the base of the building and at the terraces, there are thick bands of trim with flutes that are aligned horizontally, further de-emphasizing the building’s verticality, with a stepped retaining wall at the basement light well along Wisconsin Avenue also featuring the same trim cap. On the fifth floor, the building has corner setbacks, which are home to rooftop terraces, two-story “tower” sections with curved brick piers flanking curved brick balconies with large fixed storefronts and french doors at the balconies, and stacked bond and soldier brick framing the storefronts. The fifth floor is the smallest, consisting of the “tower” with the curved brick piers and balconies on the floor below, as well as a setback section to the northeast, with two large roof terraces on the rooftop of the building’s fourth floor at the northeast end of the building. The rooftop terrace is enclosed by a modern wire safety railing, and features curved corners, following the curved corners of the fourth floor below. The rear of the building features recessed balconies enclosed by low brick walls on the exterior, which have had their views of the State Capitol blocked by an adjacent building constructed several decades later.
The building’s interior features plaster walls with a lobby featuring curved walls and a linoleum floor, recessed radiators, simple stone fireplace surrounds, curved staircases with metal handrails, art deco-style pendant and sconce light fixtures, and kitchens with the original cabinets, subway tile wall cladding, built-in cutting boards, and tile countertops. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, owing to its architectural significance. The building today is one of the most distinctive buildings on the Downtown Madison isthmus, and is an excellent example of Art Moderne architecture, and is the best preserved of the three significant Monberg-designed buildings from the time period in the Mansion Hill district. The building remains in use as a rental apartment building.

I planted this tree, renowned for its large yellow boquet like flowers, at Raintrees, Diamond Beach a few years ago and it was doing OK, although each year it would face a setback in the dry spring before leafing up again coming into early autumn.
Given that it was surviving here well over 2000km south of its native range in Far North Queensland I thought I had done well to keep it alive.
Just as it was beginning to look good again, in July 2018 a storm caused a a 5 metre section of a nearby Mexican Tree Fern (Schizolobium parahyba) to break off, smashing the Deplanchea tetraphylla off at the ground.
After so much effort to get it to where I had I was of course very despondent after this event.
Nevertheless I took the broken bits and stuck them in a pot of soil and surprisingly they took root pretty quickly and survive to this day in my nursery. The good news is the broken Mexican Tree Fern has resprouted and the adjoining Alloxylon Flammeum (Australian Tree Waratah), also seriously damaged has also bounced back well.
From January 2019 I had been seeking to purchase another advanced tree and was lucky enough to find 2 at Plumtree Pocket Nursery at Burringbar. I was fortunate that a friend was able to transport the 2 advanced trees down to Diamond Beach in late May 2019.
Recently I saw Deplanchea tetraphylla growing well in the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney so I have today bitten the bullet and planted one of the two trees in a hard spot but I've dug a big hole and added good loam and some lime.
I am hoping the winter will not impact the tree too much but keeping the water up to it in spring may be an issue. Well see how I go.

On September 5th, a small setback: Linus paid a visit to the allergy clinic, and the message did upset mom and dad a bit. Our dear son has quite severe problems with his breathing (=asthma). This is not noticed during "normal conditions", but even a flu can be life-threatening. Fortunately there is medication to reinforce his lungs. But we are advised not to take any visits whatsoever for the next month or two and at any price avoid infections. Linus loves to go to the shop with us, but this will now have to wait for some time. We need the medicine to work for him, with improvements in the next check-up two months from now. The problem is worse due to two factors: His quite big overweight (we feed him normally, but he keeps on growing - we now (again) need to bring this up with his hospital)... The other things relates to his surgery on his Birthday: The successful operation has a well-know potential side effect: There is simply less space for his lungs.... So apologies if you are not able to visit him, I promise to keep this and his Vox page updated more frequently. But we are hopeful, and the medicin should start to kick in within a week or so.... Also we went through his food supply today - we have to remove all food containing wheat. No big deal there.
Thats right! Yesterday marks the start of my next Halloween animation. An animation that will hopefully be completed by Halloween because already I've been having major setbacks with it :P

I said a silent prayer for the two truck drivers, and then pressed down on the gas pedal to take advantage of the empty highway ahead of us.
We still had our two our cushion after we went through airport security. We had time to have a little breakfast, the first of many meals that would be a big part of the next two weeks.
A tractor hauls hydraulic fill to the setback levee alignment for the upper breach of Missouri River Levee Unit L-550 that occured southwest of Watson, Mo., during the Flood of 2011. The fill is forming the 36-foot-wide base for a flood control structure that will reconnect the ends of the existing levee.
The clubhouse at Glebe Street, home to Crompton Cricket Club, members of the Lancashire League. Captured during a 64-run First Division defeat by title-chasing Burnley. The setback sent struggling Crompton to the foot of the table while the third-placed visitors moved to within five points of leaders Walsden.
Crompton were undone by the visitors' substitute professional Daryn Smit, a South African on Derbyshire's books. Smit struck 88 then took 6-50. Opener Liam Bedford (41) was, after Smit, Burnley's best run-maker. Carl Taylor (2-42) and Pakistani substitute professional Sami Aslam (2-62) led the bowling. None of the Crompton batters had a clue how to build an innings. Some dreadful shots. Opener Mohammad Jamal (35) and No 4 Denis Louis (33) departed recklessly after flattering to deceive with a flurry of big hits. Pro Aslam contributed just three to wrap up an undistinguished Lancashire League debut. No 11 Matt Hodson (23) provided a little entertainment at the end, cracking five fours, before being bowled by Joe McCluskie (1-48).

These modern humans would rather die from the Covid-19 virus infection, even if there is no fully effective vaccine, than try the help of our much more advanced computer artificial intelligence, this definitely would have been greatly laughed at by the ancient outer space alien high-tech civilization.
Never try to use an unchanging vaccine to fight a mutated virus.
Otherwise, once the mutated virus can make full use of the weakened vaccine antibodies to backbite the human immune system of its vaccinators, it means that a large number of vaccinators across the country will face a tragic period of mass extinction at the same time, and they will be completely unable to be rescued, that is, the Covid-19 antibody-dependent enhancement, ADE.

A grim warning from Israel: Vaccination blunts, but does not defeat Delta.
With early vaccination and outstanding data, country is the world’s real-life COVID-19 lab.
Israel has among the world’s highest levels of vaccination for COVID-19, with 78% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, the vast majority with the Pfizer vaccine. Yet the country is now logging one of the world’s highest infection rates, with nearly 650 new cases daily per million people. More than half are in fully vaccinated people, underscoring the extraordinary transmissibility of the Delta variant and stoking concerns that the benefits of vaccination ebb over time.
...
Israel’s sobering setback
Israel, which has led the world in launching vaccinations and in data gathering, is confronting a surge of COVID-19 cases that officials expect to push hospitals to the brink. Nearly 60% of gravely ill patients are fully vaccinated.
...
What is clear is that “breakthrough” cases are not the rare events the term implies. As of 15 August, 514 Israelis were hospitalized with severe or critical COVID-19, a 31% increase from just 4 days earlier. Of the 514, 59% were fully vaccinated. Of the vaccinated, 87% were 60 or older. “There are so many breakthrough infections that they dominate and most of the hospitalized patients are actually vaccinated,” says Uri Shalit, a bioinformatician at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) who has consulted on COVID-19 for the government. “One of the big stories from Israel [is]: ‘Vaccines work, but not well enough.’”
...
Yet boosters are unlikely to tame a Delta surge on their own, says Dvir Aran, a biomedical data scientist at Technion.
...
Aran’s message for the United States and other wealthier nations considering boosters is stark: “Do not think that the boosters are the solution.”

"The God's Code" protects "Priceless Life"
We know your yesterday, today and tomorrow!
Our computer artificial intelligence AI can output the event symbols on each day in your past 100 days or more, for you to examine your past destined fate better.
Our computer artificial intelligence AI can also output the event symbols on each day in your future 100 days or more, for you to examine your future destined fate in advance.
This is your ONLY CHANCE to escape from any form of possible illness (including virus infection) and life dangers (including physical injuries and death) in the future days.
We don't need to know your name, address, and phone number at all.
We only need to know your Birth Year, Month, Day, Bi-Hour Time, and "male/female Gender".
Combined with the "Starting Date to calculate", we can instantly output your personal "Daily Occurrence List of Event Symbols" for the past, present, and future, any 100 days.
Therefore, your personal "Daily Occurrence List of Event Symbols" for the past 100 days allows you to fully check "accuracy" because we do not need to know your name, address, and phone number, nor do we know you (Who You are?) at all. So there is absolutely no drawback of "after the fact", allowing you to fully check its "accuracy" with the "Secrets of Life" that you can only know personally.
Your personal "Daily Occurrence List of Event Symbols" for the next 100 days, allowing you to anticipate your future dates of illnesses (including Covid-19 virus infections) and life dangers, stay at home, and take protective safety measures, to prevent virus infections, or to prevent car accidents, floods, fires, injuries, falls and other bad lucks to be happened.

This was one of the small Monarchs, although not the smallest. It was extremely active, moving all around the plant. It didn't appear to be feeding, but in many species, first instar caterpillars have very weak mouthparts so that they can only eat the outer layer of the plant on the youngest shoots.
Leonard J. Buck Garden, Far Hills, NJ
It was between 1081 and 1101 that the Bishop of Périgueux cedes land to the Abbey of Cluny, then expanding. The Ronsenac priory is well founded and, despite many setbacks, the monks occupy the monastery until the eighteenth century.
Historical
The priory was part of the province of Poitou and regularly visited the messengers of Cluny, whose reports are a valuable source of historical data. Until the fifteenth century, the monastic community of Ronsenac, made from July to September monks, seems to enjoy comfortable resources to recover from the ravages and destruction suffered during the various armed conflicts of the late Middle Ages. This relative affluence allows the execution of a vast reconstruction program, which began at the end of the fourteenth century, which largely transforms existing buildings.
The religious wars seem to have due to the strength of the priory, which does not fall entirely on the damage inflicted on him during this period of unrest. This decline is increasing gradually until 1788, when the last two monks are called to Cluny. In 1791, the buildings were sold as national property. Thus began two centuries of various assignments (farm, cheese ...) that transform buildings and make forget the architectural wealth.
Today
Since 1987, following a change of ownership, the priory has gradually emerged from oblivion. The restoration and development undertaken since, among other things, led to the discovery of amazing murals from the thirteenth century. These frescoes (listed Historic Monuments) and important architectural remains make this monastery an important tourist site. (Unfortunately, the church was closed.)
To support and help this work, the Friends of the Priory of Ronsenac was founded in 1988 to provide support to the work camps, but also in cultural activities taking place in the buildings of the priory.

My first log since being charged with D682. There mostly good troops. But some need combat experience. The coming of the EC was a major setback in our plans to rise up in defiance. Just a thorn in our back sides that needs to be taken care off. We were dispatched today on the UFRN "Happy Day". A Planet strike devastator ship, armed with Spiner Ligmar Corps. prototype PDS pod, armed with 300 high concentration nukes and fitted to the specially designed ship. But out of that pay load only one was launched. "We need to send the EC a strong message." UFR high command told me. "So right after the launch, you'll take your 7 troops planet side while the happy day makes an escape. We need to tell them to stay out of work and stay the hell away."
Hmf. Didn't stop them from lashing out with overrun UNSD ships as we made orbit. The Corvettes took care of them. Combat cannons were no mach for Rail gun batteries.
(-:Note-Subjects hart rate out of sync. Increased body temperature-subject is under stress…:-)
Yeah yeah. It's that bloody operation on my face. Sure the bio mechanics took but it still remains like a robot, instead of skin growing over it. Still gets painful. The 7 troops in D682 as follows.
Sergeant Michel-age 25-M-APC pilot.
Junior Sergeant Owen-age 36-M-sniper.
Junior Sergeant Isaac-age 27-M-Heavy weapons/APC gunner.
Junior Sergeant Ryan-age 30-M-Combat Engineer/Demolitions expert.
Junior Sergeant Isla-age 26-F-Scout.
Junior Sergeant Ella-age 26-F-Medic.
Junior Sergeant Lukas-age 24-M-Infantry.
I found the spare time while we wait for the landing shuttle to touch down, so I got them all working on there logs.
Scans said there was a crashed RA or former RA ship about 300 kilometers away from nuke sight, directly between us. We would have to take the APC around it incase of survivors.
I gotta go know. The shuttles just about to land.
Senior Lieutenant Leonov Virrof signing off.

Hitchin Town 2-2 Poole Town
A two-goal burst in the final three minutes denied the Canaries victory and maintained Poole Town's unbeaten start to the season.
Despite the late setback, Hitchin Town's young side continues to grow in confidence and defy the pre-season doubters. They were desperately unlucky not to have beaten Poole, the league leaders, but Poole overcame a sending off and showed great character in coming from two-down to earn a point.
The teams were:
Hitchin: Hulman, Rolfe, Bickerstaff, Noone (Barker 62) Lench, Pearson, Burtenshaw, Donnelly, King, Burns (Wharton h/t), Lowe
Subs not used: Segwete, Kirkpatrick, J.Gregson
Poole: Thomas, Clarke (Ohamje 23, Byerley 69), Spetch, Oliver, Whisken, Pettefer, Jagger-Kane, Devlin, Gillespie, Preston, Cann
Subs not used: Elliott, Brooks
Ref: P.Evans
The Canaries had to contend with a couple of pre-match blows, goalkeeper Tahj Bell was ruled out with a shoulder problem and veteran front-man Simon Martin was injured in the pre-match warm-up.
But it was a bright opening with both sides pushing the ball round the pitch nicely. Hitchin had the first chance of the game, a tame shot by King that was deflected for a corner.
Hitchin took the lead after 21 minutes, King shooting low into the net after Lewis Rolfe's cross was touched on by Matt Lench.
King went close to adding to Hitchin's lead just before the interval, going up to meet Rolfe's high ball into the area with Poole goalkeeper Dan Thomas but seeing his header roll wide of the target.
For all Poole's energy, they were unable to threaten Hitchin's stand-in keeper David Hulman.
Hitchin could have extended their lead when Jamal Lowe controlled King's cross and volleyed over and Gary Wharton's run ended with a low shot that was deflected for a corner.
Poole received a blow to their hopes when skipper Dan Cann was shown a second yellow card after felling Callum Donnelly. Poole responded immediately with a shot from Jacob Jagger-Kane that was well saved by Hulman.
But Hitchin continued to have the upper hand. Lowe struck the crossbar with a free-kick from the edge of the area and in the 79th minute, King netted his second goal, running onto a long ball by Rolfe and brushing aside a defender before shooting just inside Thomas' right hand post.
Poole refused to give up, and Richard Gillespie should have scored when he met a corner with the Hitchin defence in confusion. Gillespie had his moment in the 88th minute, scrambling the ball home after two earlier efforts were blocked.
Two minutes later, Poole's recovery was completed when a long cross to the far post was powered into the net by the head of defender Will Spetch. Rough justice, perhaps for Hitchin, but manager Mark Burke was still upbeat about the outcome. "Against the league leaders, I would have taken a point before kick-off," he said. "We became anxious in the closing stages but that comes down to experience - this is a young team and it is learning. I couldn't be more pleased with the way the season has started."
