This was the status "Spiderman" by artist Ian Anthony Laing, part of the Serving Hands public arts program throughout Lincoln, NE during the summer of 2019. This was located at 27th & Normal Blvd. Probably one of my two or three favorite statues this year -- so I'm glad we saved it for our last day of photographing them! This statue received some notoriety, when a woman's complaint about "Devil hands" received some national press, before she was informed of the comic book origins of the image. Eventually, the statue was destroyed during a storm in the summer of 2022, when a tree fell on it in the yard where it ended up after the public auction of all the statues.

As part of her term, Ellie led a restoration project on the Burnt Fork that included riparian planting and fencing (she's pictured above on the Burnt Fork with one of the plants.
This is the write up about the project Ellie is working on in that picture:
Along the Burnt Fork, east of the town of Stevensville we have been working with Jay Meyer on his family ranch. Jay has watched the stream change course and become a more powerful force due to increased sediment loads, changing flood patterns, and lack of streamside vegetation. After a successful project in 2020, Jay was interested in doing even more. In 2021 we’ve: • Planted additional native trees and shrubs, like willows, wood’s rose, and dogwood, to add diversity and habitat • Established willow cuttings along the banks • Protected planted vegetation from wildlife nibbling with browse protectors • Reinforced a water gap and cattle crossing that will reduce cattle impact on the stream These actions will help reduce nonpoint source pollutants, including sediment and nutrients, from further impacting this impaired stream. We’re so excited to see the growth of this project as the plants take root and do their part to improve water quality.
