London Transports’ trolleybuses serving the Ilford, Essex area in East London were unique. They were built in the U.K. for service in South Africa in the early 1940’s, but because of war time shipping restrictions, they were sold to London Transport who placed them at their Ilford trolleybus depot. The trolleybuses were wider, higher and weighed more that the standard trolleybus, so the police insisted they kept away from Central London and railway bridges, hence the allocation to the Ilford area which was totally suburban and had no overhead bridges. The buses had darkened windows and front entrances - which were blocked off in London.
Guayama, PR- Soldiers assigned to the 475th Eng. Co., US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico, are currently tearing down over 10 condemned structures and cleaning empty lots in the center of the southern city, in another effort to help the community of Puerto Rico.
The troops, many of whom have recently returned from the combat zone in Afghanistan, are applying their technical skills, while working in direct coordination with local authorities to eliminate safety hazards to the local community.
