Cafes make great settings for photography. The no of cafes has grown considerably in recent years providing a temporary escape from shopping, an opportunity to relax and to do a little people watching. For the street photographer its a chance to document the rise in the number of cafes, people in a setting often with an interesting background and the interaction of people trying to relax in an oasis of calm.

Another scan from my 1977 Scottish Rover catches BRC&W class 27 no. 27001 slowly drawing into the Mallaig station terminus with the 6am service from Glasgow Queen Street.
It's summer (although not immediately obvious!) and the train will be carrying tourists heading for both here as well as further afield by way of ferries from the harbour out to the Western isles. One or two are quite eager apparently - if you look down the train at least one carriage door is already open!
The 164 mile long West Highland Line line also serves as an important transport link for the Post Office, and one of the then ubiquitous Morris 1000 vans (reg. SST 512K) can be seen waiting on the platform for post bags and parcels. The driver has, probably quite sensibly, decided to wait it out in the van until the passengers have made their way out of the station - after all the train won't be going anywhere for an hour or two (turnarounds of a few minutes were unheard of then, and not practical either with a locomotive needing to be uncoupled, run around, and re-coupled).
Note the station staff welcoming committee in the round hats, no doubt ready to help folk with luggage and provide other advice. Further down and just in front of the PO van is possibly a fitter - ready to uncouple the locomotive and assist the driver in any shunting work that might be required before the train heads back to Fort William and Glasgow.
It's a pity the station overall roof had been removed in 1975 - evidence on top of the wall at right (which would have supported it) suggests some remedial work was required as a result of the removal.
Oh, and just spotted what might be a LNER Restaurant Car in the formation!
Not the best shot I've ever taken, but hopefully one that captures a flavour of the times.
Comments are off for this one, thanks.

This photo makes me angry, confused and ashamed. I as the lady of the house am serving the maid, who is just sitting on her lazy ass and doesn't do any of her tasks. This is so wrong, so humiliating and such a disgrace. I should take out my cane, put that arrogant maid over the knee and spank her lazy bum blue until she begs for mercy. Yet I don't do that because I'm just too kind and don't want to spoil the party with a blaze of anger and violence.
Luckily the truth is a lot more friendly. Fabienne is a good friend and I always love to see her in her satin maid's uniform. Therefore for my party she especially dressed up in her cute uniform, much to my delight. No worries that she's not doing any household tasks; she's a guest today so I serve her my salmon salad crackers just like all other guests.

Lumberton, NC
Vintage Americana right here. The Dixie Drive-In opened in the 1960s and is still serving customers in Lumberton, a small(ish) city in North Carolina.
Here's a snippet from an excellent article about the Dixie that Andrew Kenney wrote for the Our State web site:
"Practically speaking, the Dixie has to be a drive-in. With just six booths, 15 stools, and a bathroom around back, the building is too small for many diners to eat inside.
This is the way Howard and Edith Stevens, the Dixie’s founders, imagined the place. Howard had worked nights on the short-order line at a drive-in after spending the day laboring on the family farm outside Whiteville. When he and Edith decided to sell the farm and open the Dixie in 1963, their sons — George, Steve, and Tony — were nearly grown.
Older patrons can tell you how they remember the husband-and-wife team: Edith cooking fries while Howard worked the grill in a long-sleeve shirt and dress shoes. They claim they never saw a stain of mustard or ketchup on Howard.
They also remember how the sons came in after school and worked shifts. Now those shifts have turned into careers: George has never worked anywhere else; Steve came back after serving in the Air Force; and Tony, a Baptist preacher on the side, found his way home after attending Bible college.
“You do what your daddy says,” Steve says with a laugh. “I pretty much knew I was going to come back.”
Generations of customers — the children and grandchildren of the mechanics and lawyers and farmhands in Robeson County — come back, too. They come back for the same burger, fixed the same way. It only costs a little more than it used to."
