I'm as guilty as the next astro landscape photographer who tends to focus on the Milkyway core. Last weekend I decided to point the camera slightly to the left and give some glory to two irregular dwarf galaxies some 200 million light years away known as the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds aka LMC and SMC.
The LMC and SMC have a rich tradition in the cultures of Aboriginal Australians. In Western Australia, the Magellanic Clouds represent the camp of an old couple who can no longer obtain their own food. The Large Magellanic Cloud is the camp of the old man while the Small Magellanic Cloud is the camp of the old woman and a nearby star represents their fire. This story represents a celestial model of respect for elders and the need to share food with those who need it.

The Milky Way from Cannon Beach Oregon. One of the most popular beaches on the West coast of the US. The famous Cannon beach and Haystack.I came here to shoot some Sunset pics, and I stayed just to see how the scene was. I was expecting a lot of light pollution. I was surprised there was not more light pollution here, and yet the rocks were easily lit up from the lights of nearby hotels, and apartments. A quick and dirty process of 5min stacked images in Sequator. Canon Ra, 24mm F/2.8 ISO6400

I wasn't happy with the results from flattening the source files and using Sequator, so I just used Photoshop and blended out the clouds in those frames where they were present. I left some in the bottom left. I'm pretty happy with the result.

first light with my new OnStep GOTO system. Horribly off polar alignment (my fault not OnStep) so only 30*30 second exposures. ISO 400, Nikon D5300, 300mm f4 Nikon lens
Oldest model CG5 with OnStep upgrade
GOTO worked great after just a 1 star alignment. Wireless worked great using a tablet. Tracking is jerky but mount was doing that before upgrade. But I also think the motors were pulsing a bit. Will investigate further as it is unacceptable.
Anyway, I am in love with GOTO. I would have been hunting this forever.

This is my first time photographing the Orion Nebula through my Skywatcher telescope. It has been such fun processing the photos to reach the final image.
It is composed of...
26 stacked photos - ISO800 20 seconds
63 stacked photos - ISO800 25 seconds
24 stacked photos - ISO1600 20 seconds
The photos were stacked using Sequator and then processed in Affinity. A final touch in DeNoise.
I cannot wait for some more clear skies.
Stood alone on the ancient causeway, long after the tourists had vanished and the tide had whispered its way back to sea, I watched the Milky Way like a river of stars flow over St Michael’s Mount as if the universe was putting on a show just for me.
This image is a blend of 7 x 15-second exposures, shot at ISO 3200 with my trusty Canon 16-35mm L series lens. Stacked in Sequator to tame the noise and bring out the galactic drama.
I didn’t just want to photograph the stars — I wanted to feel them. To let the light of 100,000 distant suns paint the cobbles with memory and magic.
Cornwall, you’ve outdone yourself.
