This was the morning of the second of the two days at the Festiniog Railway, the last of eight days of Welsh narrow gauge steam (although I didn't partake in the first four). As on the previous day, the two trains had come from Glan-y-pwll yard at Blaenau Ffestiniog coupled together, and we boarded at Tanygrisiau. However, instead of running Hugh Napier round and then running the trains separately to Dduallt, the whole formation - with Hugh Napier leading and Palmerston giving a helping hand from the middle where necessary - continued to Dduallt, where the remarshalling took place: Hugh Napier was detached and ran into the siding, Palmerston moved the whole train beyond the siding, Hugh Napier ran out of the siding and coupled to the tipplers, and the two trains were then separated from each other. The plan was to do some shots on the northern side of Moelwyn Tunnel, alongside the Tanygrisiau Reservoir, but we'd travel there in the train rather than walk from Dduallt - although I'm not sure why we needed to go via Dduallt.
The weather forecast for today was poorer than previously, with cloud forecast for the morning and then sunny spells during the afternoon. However, when we arrived here, a small hole appeared in the cloud and began to move towards the sun, so we decided to grab a few shots while we had some sun. I'd expected that if we were quick we might get one run-past in sun, but the blue patch kept getting bigger and we ended up having several run-pasts; Hugh Napier then headed back up the line, and we repeated the exercise with Palmerston on the passenger train.
Unfortunately, by the time we were alighting from the train near the reservoir, the last of the morning's brightness was just disappearing - but coming straight back up from Dduallt instead of spending twenty minutes doing run-pasts there would have not really made a difference, as we still had to walk into position; at least we already had some sunny shots in the bag, which had not been expected. We then spent about forty minutes doing run-pasts alongside the reservoir, but the cloud was getting thicker and the light levels lower, plus it looked like some rain might be on its way... so we made the decision to return to Tanygrisiau to warm up in the café near the station (the temperature had dropped below freezing overnight) and then head out again closer to the time the next sunny spells were due to arrive. I don't think anyone objected to the extended refreshment break!

Simply looking down the hopper toward the screw in a grinder. In the finished picture I used 86 separate images stacked together using Helicon Focus. Lighting used was from Adaptalux.
I had a couple of hours to pass the time in Coventry today whilst #3 was sitting an exam (he said it all went well). So I went to a coffee shop and sat and worked. Whilst I was drinking my coffee and working this man came and sat a few tables away and also had a coffee. He just sat and watched the world go by out of the window in front of him. We were together in the same place doing the same thing and still completely separate. No idea who he was or why he was so smartly dressed and having a coffee at that time in that place. I wish I was brave enough to have talked to him and find out... Maybe one day I will do the 100 strangers project.

The Crimson Backed Sunbird or The Small Sunbird, is a sunbird endemic to the Western Ghats of India. Like other sunbirds, they feed mainly on nectar although they take insects, especially to feed their young. They are tiny birds that are resident and are found in forests but are particularly attracted to gardens at the edge of the forest where people grow suitable flower-bearing plants. They usually perch while taking nectar.
Crimson-backed sunbirds are tiny, even by sunbird standards, and are only 8 cm long. They have medium-length thin down-curved bills and brush-tipped tubular tongues, both adaptations for nectar feeding.
The adult male is velvet red on the mantle and wing coverts and there is a broad red breast band. The crown is shiny green and there are pink-violet patches on the throat and rump. The underside from the breast below is yellowish. There is a black edge to the bib that separates the yellow of the underside.
The eclipse plumage (non-breeding) of the male has more olive on the head and velvet red is restricted to the lower mantle and wing coverts. The female is olive-brown but the rump is distinctly red. They may be found in good numbers in flower-rich gardens at the edges of forests or plantations.

I started with the broken ladder (obtained from IA tool) and then without any "premeditation" I chose the other three. These three works was conceived and created separately (a polaroid dating back to the early 80s, obviously in color; and two shots taken with the Nokia N70 (forerunner of smartphones but not touch) AND "processed" with Photoshop and relative filters .
After uploading all the four images I "understood" that I had created a metaphorical descent into hell: the entrance, with the fall from the ladder and the stations of the terrifying experience that followed...

Saw this beautiful starling flying around a local park in Kuala Lumpur. Possibly an escapee from a nearby bird park. Got a lucky break when it finally perched.
The superb starling (Lamprotornis superbus) is a member of the starling family of birds. It was formerly known as Spreo superbus. This species is 18 to 19 cm (7.1 to 7.5 in) long.
Description: These small short-tailed starlings have a long narrow bill, robust bodies, strong feet and a distinctive plumage pattern. Adults have black heads and iridescent blue-to-green back, upper breast, wings, and tail. The belly is red-orange, separated from the blue breast by a white bar.
