At yet another birthday party with the kids this past weekend, at Quassy amusement park located on Lake Quassapaug. The kiddie park area, where I inevitably spend most of my time, is separated from the water by only a fence. So of course, with the sun setting, my attention is being torn by this lovely sunset glittering on the water...and like usual, I feel like I'm the only one noticing the beauty.
I took some shots, but this time for kicks, I tried a few shots in sunset mode, which is something I very rarely use because I don't like the result. It seems to take away the colors and adds an almost sepia tone...maybe because it's an older camera, I don't know. But I actually like the result here, giving everything an amber glow...reminding me of tiger-eye contrasting with the dark areas.

The Bressanone (Brixen) Cathedral was built in 980. Eventually, after two fires, the Romanesque design with its three naves and two front towers was constructed (around 1200). A Baroque design was later constructed in 1745-1754.
The Bressanone Cathedral's cloister is one of the most important monuments of art in South Tyrol. The cloister is famous in particular for its Gothic frescoes. It was originally built in pre Romanesque times but later redesigned in Romanesque and Gothic style.
A cloister (from Latin claustrum, "enclosure") is a covered walk, open gallery, or open arcade running along the walls of a building.
The attachment of a cloister to a cathedral or church usually indicates that it was part of a monastic foundation forming a continuous and solid architectural barrier that effectively separated the world of the monks from that of the serfs and workmen, whose lives and works went on outside and around the cloister.

St Andrew’s is one of Norfolk’s many round tower churches. The county contains three quarters of those still standing in Britain
The tower - of the usual local flint and mortar construction and thought to be 11th Century Saxon - is an enigma because it is quite separate from the rest of the building.
A clearly visible filled in arch on the tower's east side suggests that a nave was once attached there but the reasons for that church’s subsequent demise are unknown. Was it actually finished? If not why? Was the current church contemporary - Elsewhere in Norfolk two churches are so close that they touch.
*There is also a Great Snoring which is actually the smaller village. ‘Snoring' derives’ from someone named Snear rather than any stentorian prowess of the locals..

Smaller islands in the sea are Nishijima (西島), Hitomarujima (人丸島) and Hyoutanjima (瓢箪島) from left to right.
The straits, width of more or less 800m, is called Anijima Seto (兄島瀬戸) or the Anijima straits, which is beautifully blue but notoriously dangerous due to the fast current as observed in the photo.

Great Blue Heron photographed at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. The bird was photographed in the swampy water from a five-foot-high boardwalk over the water. Because of this, the plants growing in the water became the background.
The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands. It is a rare vagrant to coastal Spain, the Azores, and areas of far southern Europe.
An all-white population found only in the Caribbean and Florida was once treated as a separate species and known as the great white heron.
The primary food for the great blue heron is small fish, though it is also known to opportunistically feed on a wide range of shrimp, crabs, aquatic insects, rodents, and other small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds. Primary prey is variable based on availability and abundance. – Wikipedia
Sommelsdijk is a village on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, South Holland, the Netherlands, and part of the municipality of the same name. Sommelsdijk has (1 January 2006) 7,383 inhabitants which makes it the largest settlement on the island.
In the past, Sommelsdijk was the only place on the island of Goeree-Overflakee that was part of the province of Zeeland. In 1805 it was made a part of Holland, and remained such under the amendment of the Dutch Constitution of 1814.
Early March 1941 during the Second World War, nearly two hundred young men from Sommelsdijk were incarcerated for one month because of insulting the German army and the Dutch police.
Sommelsdijk was a separate municipality until 1966, when it became part of Middelharnis. Most recently, it was made part of the new municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee in 2013.

I bought a little hot shoe astrotracer for my camera and thought I would try it out before I find a real Milky Way to shoot.
It moves the sensor in the camera using a GPS signal and moves the sensor along with the movement of the stars allowing for long exposures without star trails. This way you can lower the ISO on the camera to prevent noise. It seemed to work pretty well but does blur the foreground so that needed to be masked in separately.
I thought I would do some light painting of the tree so you could actually see it.

Considered a separate species of the Scarce Swallowtail with a white/grey ground colour and darker banding. It is found across the Iberian Peninsula and Southern France and can be seen from early February in the Sierra de Tejeda y Almijara on the Costa del Sol in Andalusia (6554). This one was seen 'hill topping' with its cousin Papilio machaon and a handful of Painted Ladies and Red Admirals.
Despite the parachute structure of the individual Dandelion seeds being largely made up of empty space, it is believed their design creates a ring-shaped air bubble ("separated vortex ring") which slows their descent to the ground and allows them to spread further afield (and into my garden as an unfortunate consequence). It is thought their design is up to four times more efficient that a conventional parachute.

I've marveled at the aesthetic beauty of this formation while driving up hwy 140 into Yosemite valley. This view is from Big Oak Flat Road. While this road is extremely scenic, it was always point A to point B for me and I never attempted to stop at any of the crowded pull outs. This past weekend I finally took the time and enjoyed the view.

Delfshaven is a borough of Rotterdam on the right bank of river Nieuwe Maas, in South Holland, the Netherlands. It was a separate municipality until 1886.
The town of Delfshaven grew around the port of the city of Delft. Delft itself was not located on a major river, so in 1389 a harbour was created about 10 km (6 mi) due south of the city, to be able to receive seafaring vessels and avoid tolls being levied by the neighbouring and competing city of Rotterdam. This settlement was named Delfshaven ("Port of Delft").
On 1 August 1620 the Pilgrim fathers left Delfshaven with the Speedwell. Since then, the town's Oude Kerk has also been known as the Pelgrimskerk, or in English, the "Pilgrim Fathers Church".
Fishing, shipbuilding and the distillery of jenever were the main sources of income. The Dutch East India Company had important wharfs and warehouses in Delfshaven, and one of the Dutch West India Company's most famous commanders, Piet Hein, was born here.
Delfshaven belonged to the city and municipality of Delft until 1811, when it became a separate municipality. Delfshaven was annexed by Rotterdam in 1886 at its own request. The current borough has about 73,000 inhabitants. Its small historic centre has been carefully preserved. It features modest local museums, a brewery and various dining and drinking facilities.
Delfshaven escaped the bombing of Rotterdam by the Luftwaffe on May 14, 1940. Later during the Second World War, the area around the Groot Visserijplein and other parts of the western city of Rotterdam were destroyed by allied bombing on March 31, 1943.

Anijima Seto (兄島瀬戸) is the 800m straits separating Chichi-jima (left) and Ani-jima (right). This photo was taken while waiting for a humpback whale to come up to the surface to blow.

Humpback whales migrate from the northern Pacific to the Ogasawara area in December to breed. The best season for watching humpback whales is from January to April. They are particularly popular among the whale species due to their voluntary tricks like jumping out of water.
The Bay of Kotor ( known simply as Boka) is about 28 km long with a shoreline extending 107.3 km. It is surrounded by two massifs of the Dinaric Alps: the Orjen mountains to the west, and the Lovcen mountains to the east. The narrowest section of the bay, the 2300 m long Verige Strait, is only 340 m wide at its narrowest point. The bay is a ria of the vanished Bokelj River that used to run from the high mountain plateaus of Mount Orjen. The bay is composed of several smaller broad bays, united by narrower channels. The bay inlet was formerly a river system. Tectonic and karstification processes led to the disintegration of this river. After heavy rains the waterfall of Sopot spring at Risan appears, and Škurda, another well-known spring runs through a canyon from Lovcen.The outermost part of the bay is the Bay of Tivat (Teodo). On the seaward side is the Bay of Herceg Novi (Castelnuovo), at the main entrance to the Bay of Kotor. The inner bays are the Bay of Risan to the northwest and the Bay of Kotor to the southeast. The Verige Strait represents the bay's narrowest section and is located between Cape St. Nedjelja and Cape Opatovo; it separates the inner bay east of the strait from the Bay of Tivat.

SALDA LAKE
Lake Salda is a mid-size crater lake[citation needed] in southwestern Turkey, within the boundaries of Yeşilova district of Burdur Province. It lies at a distance of about fifty kilometers to the west from the province seat Burdur.
Lake Salda is often included in the Turkish Lakes Region that extends across inner western to southern Anatolia, especially Isparta Province and Afyonkarahisar Province, although Lake Salda is geographically separate from the larger lakes, which are more to the east and, being a crater lake, is morphologically different from these tectonic lakes.
The lake area covers 4,370 hectares, and its depth reaches 196 meters, making it one of the deeper lakes in Turkey, if not the deepest. The lake sedimentary records show high resolution climate changes that are related to solar variability during the last millennium.
The lake is a popular excursion spot for people across the region or from beyond, the more so due to the hydromagnesite mineral found in its coastal waters, which is believed to offer remedies for certain dermatological diseases. The shorelines, surrounded by black pine forests, are also popular among hunters, the game and the fowl available including quails, hares, foxes, boars and wild ducks, aside from the lake's fish. White sandy beaches, limpid water and seven crystal-white islets within the lake complete the scenery.
A township that starts almost at the shore to the southwest of the lake carries the same name, Salda. The local administrative seat of Yeşilova is located to the east of the lake at a distance of about four kilometers and Yeşilova municipality manages the lake's camping facilities.
Its peculiar morphology has led to a number of academic studies conducted on Lake Salda. The unusual alkaline nature of the lake means that is one of the few locations where ancient stromatolite algae still grows.
In 2019, a team of planetary scientists from America and Turkey conducted research on Lake Salda's shoreline microbialite sediments. In March 2021, NASA reported that its Mars surface-exploring rover Perseverance showed that "the minerals and rock deposits at Salda are the nearest match on earth to those around the Jezero Crater where the spacecraft landed."
Hoping to protect the Lake Salda area, the nation's environmental authority has launched a huge national park project. The Salda Lake National Park is currently under construction and should be finished in 2023.(Wiki)

Happy Caturday!! Viking Iceland cruise excursion from Reykjavik
Garðskagaviti can be found on the topmost point of the Reykjanes Peninsula, directly above Keflavík International Airport (KEF). Originally, a lighthouse at the site was constructed with timber in 1897 by the Danish Lighthouse Commission. In 1933, the lighthouse was renovated, reinforced with concrete, before being decommissioned in 1944 due to fear of landslides.
Garðskagaviti, standing at 26 metres high, was built as a replacement. It is today considered one of Iceland’s most picturesque lighthouses with its vibrant red and white paint job and gorgeous surrounding scenery.
The lighthouse keeper kept a permanent residence here until 1979.
