This is one of my favorite parts right here. It's nice and complex looking, while not being detailed.
Nike+ sensor surgery: sensor is in sealed plastic case, which can be very carefully sawed open for battery access and replacement (CR2032 battery is under the accelerometer).
Here you can see the much smaller blue LED's used and the HEX Schmitt trigger.
It is a much more compact and efficient design.
This is a photo of the first attempt at the senor board using a separate photo diode and IR LED feeding into a comparator.
The bend sensor provides an analog signal based on how far the tip (marked with embroidery) is bent.
