I have an uncle who was a marine during ww2 who fought in the pacific. This is a Japanese flag that he brought home, it has a few names written on it from some of the men that he served with. The names on the flag are:

I'm still trying to get more information like the unit he was in and if my uncle can remember where he got the flag from. He gave this to me about 25 or 30 years ago, it's been at my parents house till I asked them to send it to me.
This high-resolution still image is part of a video taken by several cameras as NASA’s Perseverance rover touched down on Mars on Feb. 18, 2021. A camera aboard the descent stage captured this shot. A key objective for Perseverance’s mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planet’s geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (the European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these cached samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis. The Mars 2020 mission is part of a larger program that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. JPL, which is managed for NASA by Caltech in Pasadena, California, built and manages operations of the Perseverance and Curiosity rovers.

We were on the second floor terrace of Caddy's On The Beach, and the gulls were very active. Although I was initially annoyed at them getting into frame, I realized they really were part of the scene.

Expired/Discontinued Kodak Professional T400 CN Film (Process C-41)/Canonet QL-17 G-III
Well friends, the Canonet QL-17 G-III I purchased as a gift for my sister came back from Camera Techs looking almost as good as new.
Chuck, the technician that worked on this camera did an amazing job. Whatever old foam was left on the camera had turned--with the years and lack of use-- into a black sticky tar that threatened with dislodging and spreading around the guts of the camera, lens, etc.
Prior to taking the Canonet in, I tried to remove as much of the gooey matter as possible with a paper towel wrapped index finger, loaded a roll and shot it to see how much light was leaking through. You can see the shots on this Canonet set (about 7 shots prior to this one). It was really bad.
In any case, this is the first roll shot post-repair. Tested at all speeds and apertures for the past two days (this photo was taken around 11am this morning, on my way to Matt's at the Market for lunch with friends) and developed about an hour ago at Rite-Aid in White Center. All photos, ALL 24 frames came out.
Tomorrow the camera will be sent--along with a brand new Domke Gripper strap I got at Glazer's and a rubberized hooded UV filter (found on eBay, to double up as lens protection)--to my sister all the way to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Before I send the camera to Giselle I'll take a photo of the foam job to share with fellow Canonet lovers and anyone here in Seattle who's been thinking of replacing the foam on a vintage camera such as this one. It is fantastic what skilled hands can do with great little cameras that have been abandoned and forgotten for years and deserve to be used and enjoyed.

I made a send out to the northeast piedmont region to shoot CSX's northbound Norlina Sub local L617. CSX made the very intriguing decision to start sending MP15ACs 1136 and 1186 for local service in the Raleigh area over the past couple months. Being the whore for endcab switchers that I am, I knew I finally had to get this operation under my belt. The power on L617 this day was a pretty cool trio of 4 axle EMDs. The leader is one of the new GP40-3 rebuilds done by MEI earlier this year, with 1186 second out and an original square cab GP38-3 in the third slot. I don't like that the new dash 3s recieve e-bells, but they do look pretty good. Here's the local flying over the massive Tar River bridge south of Kittrell, with the access road for Carolina Sunrock winding beneath it. You can see one of the original bridge's supports beneath the newer structure. It's really crazy to think about how this used to be a busy mainline with high speed piggyback and passenger trains up until the 1980s, now reduced to getting a pair of 20 mile per hour locals only on weekdays. That'll soon change though, with plans for the entire S Line from Raleigh to near Richmond to be rebuilt to host 120 mile per hour Amtrak service. I'm happy I was able to shoot this line before that change happens.

El Señor Jesús profetizó: “Aún tengo muchas cosas que deciros, pero ahora no las podéis soportar. Pero cuando Él, el Espíritu de verdad, venga, os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y os hará saber lo que habrá de venir” (Juan 16:12-13).
El Apocalipsis profetiza: “El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las iglesias” (Apocalipsis 2:7).
De esto podemos ver que cuando el Señor venga en los últimos días, expresará nuevas palabras, así pues, ¿cómo podrían estas palabras ser registradas en la Biblia de antemano? Si pensamos que no hay palabras de Dios fuera de la Biblia, ¿cómo se pueden cumplir las profecías anteriores?
Dios Todopoderoso dice: “¿Quién es más grande: Dios o la Biblia? ¿Por qué debe obrar Dios de acuerdo con la Biblia? ¿Podría ser que Dios mismo no tuviera derecho de sobrepasar la Biblia? ¿No puede salirse Dios de la Biblia y hacer otra obra? ¿Por qué no guardaban el día de reposo Jesús y Sus discípulos? Si debía guardar el día de reposo y practicar según los mandamientos del Antiguo Testamento, ¿por qué no lo hizo Jesús después de venir, sino que en su lugar lavó pies, cubrió cabezas, partió pan y bebió vino? ¿No está todo esto ausente de los mandamientos del Antiguo Testamento? Si Jesús honraba el Antiguo Testamento, ¿por qué terminó con estas doctrinas? Deberías saber qué vino primero, ¡Dios o la Biblia! Si era el Señor del día de reposo, ¿no podría ser también el de la Biblia?”.
“El hecho que estoy explicando aquí es este: lo que Dios es y tiene es inagotable e ilimitado por siempre. Dios es la fuente de la vida y de todas las cosas. Dios no puede ser dimensionado por ningún ser creado. Por último, debo todavía recordar a todos: no delimitéis otra vez a Dios en libros, palabras o en Sus declaraciones pasadas. Hay una sola palabra para la característica de la obra de Dios: nueva. A Él no le gusta tomar caminos antiguos o repetir Su obra, y mucho menos quiere que la gente lo adore mientras que lo delimita a un cierto ámbito. Este es el carácter de Dios”.

Dispatcher Twelve put on a master class at Daggett on how to get trains onto the Santa Fe in a timely manner. Facetiously of course although this move did eliminate any route for eastbound trains and it did keep a Trona, California to West Elk, Colorado empty coal train on the BNSF's Mojave Subdivision for longer than I'm sure they would have wanted it to be there for.
With track and time in effect on the BNSF side (working on the pads on the grade crossing with A Street) Union Pacific stacked up four trains between Daggett and Yermo and with no other eastbounds other than the previous one mention left on both the Cajon Subdivision and Mojave, this did seem to be quiet the move. As Union Pacific's Manifest from Ogden, Utah to West Colton, California (left) rumbles up on the number one with a six pack of various General Electric locomotives on the head end, alongside them on the number two is the ISCLB (Intermodal Salt Lake City, Utah to Long Beach ICTF, California) as they wait for the go ahead from the BNSF to proceed westward. Once the track and time is released the Ogden Manifest will head out first with all twelve thousand feet of mixed manifest for the LA Basin, after which the Salt Lake will have it's moment in the sun with it's crappy SD70M leader then the other two trains will come through, after the BNSF slams a half dozen or so Intermodal trains through.

I wish it would have been a bit darker outside when I tried this so I wouldn't have had to use such a high fstop to be able to keep the shutter open longer. I'm in my front yard once again, entertaining the neighbors. Trying to keep sending out positive messages this week.
