One of the few lights that still shines in Walpack Center, a town that nearly disappeared due to the defunct Tocks Island Dam Project. Walpack itself dates back to at least Oct. 26, 1731, and holds the distinction as the oldest municipality in the county, predating the state, and even the nation. The population is estimated to be 11. Walpack... a fascinating little place that time almost forgot... in a beautiful area of NJ that is so fun to get out and explore.
The manor Senden was in the Middle Ages under the name Benekamp owned by the family of Senden called Benekamp . The heiress of this sex, Kunigunde, married Alexander (Sander) Droste to Kakesbeck (1357-1401). His father Albrecht was a brother of Heinrich Droste to Vischering, progenitor of the later barons and Count Droste to Vischering , who are to this day, among others, at the castle Vischering , the moated castle Darfeld and the Erbdrostenhof in MĆ¼nster resident. Under the name Droste zu Senden a new family branch was formed.
The son of Sander and Kunigunde, Ludeke Droste (1405-1466), built the much later supplemented Castle Send as a festival house in the form of a moated castle. His son Sander II Droste zu Senden (1448-1502) built the mansion in its present form, which is probably the oldest surviving architectural monument of this type and model for buildings of the Westphalian Renaissance with its three-level gable. Presumably from this time also comes the southern facing facade of the connecting structure with a series of stone cross windows and loopholes.

This high-resolution still image is part of a video taken by several cameras as NASAās Perseverance rover touched down on Mars on Feb. 18, 2021. A camera aboard the descent stage captured this shot. A key objective for Perseveranceās mission on Mars is astrobiology, including the search for signs of ancient microbial life. The rover will characterize the planetās geology and past climate, pave the way for human exploration of the Red Planet, and be the first mission to collect and cache Martian rock and regolith (broken rock and dust). Subsequent NASA missions, in cooperation with ESA (the European Space Agency), would send spacecraft to Mars to collect these cached samples from the surface and return them to Earth for in-depth analysis. The Mars 2020 mission is part of a larger program that includes missions to the Moon as a way to prepare for human exploration of the Red Planet. JPL, which is managed for NASA by Caltech in Pasadena, California, built and manages operations of the Perseverance and Curiosity rovers.
