What to do, what to do for a holiday greeting...I went with my camera to a festive store yesterday and did a little clicking on likely subjects...and then you know how it goes, get home, download to computer and look for possibilities....and then create, have fun with it all!

Wonderful empty old barn and corral, both in good shape and seemingly waiting for someone to recognize their value. Nothing is quite as frightening to a person in their 50s and 60s as losing their jobs and realizing no one is interested in their once useful skills and experience.
The River Arts District consists of a vast array of artists and working studios in 22 former industrial and historical buildings spread out along a one mile stretch of the French Broad River. This eclectic area is an exciting exploration of arts, food and exercise. Plan on spending a day or more visiting artists working in their studios, grabbing a bite of local cuisine or a brew and taking time to find art that’s perfect for your world.
More than 200 artists work in paint, pencil, pottery, metal, fiber, glass, wax, paper and more. As unique and individual as their art, so too are their schedules. There are no official “Open Hours” for the River Arts District, but at any given time throughout the year, you will find a plethora of open studios and galleries. If you are coming to see someone in particular, your best bet is to check in with them before your visit. Do it here, online via our search feature, or check the Studio Guide.

All exposures were taken with a single Einstein strobe with a 22" beauty dish attached to a boom arm. In Denmark, the solstitial celebration is called Sankt Hans aften ("St. John's Eve"). It was an official holiday until 1770, and in accordance with the Danish tradition of celebrating a holiday on the evening before the actual day, it takes place on the evening of 23 June. It is the day where the medieval wise men and women (the doctors of that time) would gather special herbs that they needed for the rest of the year to cure people.
It has been celebrated since the times of the Vikings, by visiting healing water wells and making a large bonfire to ward away evil spirits. Today the water well tradition is gone. Bonfires on the beach, speeches, picnics and songs are traditional, although bonfires are built in many other places where beaches may not be close by (i.e. on the shores of lakes and other waterways, parks, etc.). In the 1920s a tradition of putting a witch made of straw and cloth on the bonfire emerged as a remembrance of the church's witchburnings from 1540 to 1693 (but unofficially a witch was lynched as late as 1897). This burning sends the witch to Bloksbjerg, the mountain 'Brocken' in the Harz region of Germany where the great witch gathering was thought to be held on this day.
Holger Drachmann and P.E. Lange-Müller wrote a beautiful midsommervise (Midsummer hymn) in 1885 called "Vi elsker vort land..." ("We Love Our Land") that is sung at every bonfire on this evening

It requires no special place to shoot good pictures. And sunsets don’t recognize any particular region in this planet to expose their exquisiteness. The signatures of beauty are myriad as any one sunset possesses own idiosyncratic mannerism – happens only once – distinctive and unique.
This sunset was captured at my place in Saujana Utama as I was about to reach home that evening. Thought the colors in the sky were extraordinarily gorgeous when I drove past the main boulevard in the area, not too far from the newly-built mosque.
Owing to my habit of pulling over at an unlikely place, I made do with the mucky landing ground on the grass and managed to have it captured before the sun disappeared. And it didn’t bother me much for having to send my car to carwash as all fours were mud-splattered.
Oh yeah, thanks to the neighbors for honking, I take it as a moral support.

Séptima y última entrega de la serie hecha en película con mi Bronica ETRS, dedicada a las rústicas vanitas rurales contenidas en este olvidado deshabitado paraje, mostrando, en esta ocasión, la casa principal de la pequeña aldea, que asemeja desafiar a su inexorable destino final, irguiéndose en su batalla final contra el olvido, aún sabiendo que la tiene perdida.

This is the seventh and last picture in this series dedicated to rustic rural "vanitas" taken on film with my Bronica ETRS in this forgotten hamlet. This one shows the main house of this village, that seems to be resisting in a heroic last stand to its inexorable fate against oblivion.
