Class 150 unit 150265 waits in the bay platform of Par Station with a service for Newquay. Par station's fine compliment of lower quadrant semaphore signals and signalbox are due to be replaced by modern signalling in 2023. The 19th century signalbox is Grade II listed.

This photo holds very special memories for me. The week before I had become redundant in my job and I was devastated and feeling very low. My lovely friend suggested we go for lunch at a seaside cafe and we walked and talked and walked and talked.

I had decided only that day to take up a hobby - I had never had a hobby before and I thought I would spend some time learning how to take a nice photo.

Anyway, we walked back from the end of the jetty, we walked past these 3 pelicans and they just sat and stared at us. I remembered that I had a camera in my handbag, got it out, took 2 photos and was hooked! I loved taking photos!

This photo remains a firm favourite of mine. My friend also has a copy hanging on her wall at home and we often talk about this moment being both an ending and a beginning.

Semaphore signal still in use on the BNSF line as seen from the Southwest Chief, somewhere between Lamy and Raton.

In the Cornish drizzle, Great Western Railway's 'Castle Set' HST, formed of 43 004 and 43 016, arrive into Truro, heading for Plymouth!
