You think it’s easy managing more than 35,000 acres of land and nearly 645,000 acres of water? Of course not. Here, volunteers clean out trails and clear invasive species at Eau Galle Recreation Area, Spring Valley, Wis. Volunteers are essential to the St. Paul District’s mission. They play an invaluable role in selflessly giving their time to help the district meet our environmental stewardship, education, recreation and navigation missions. THANK YOU to all of our wonderful volunteers! - USACE courtesy photo

Humanitarian efforts take on many shapes and forms. They result in miracles - performed by selflessly dedicated individuals concerned with the promotion of human welfare and social reform. Haiti needs these individuals, their miracles, and their honorable work and continued support more than ever. Our "Humanitarian" poster for the Haiti Poster Project pays homage to the citizens of the world who put their lives at risk and on hold to help - not just Haiti and its citizens, but the all of the at risk peoples of the globe.
Haiti is in dire need of change on countless levels, many of which were only made more apparent through the nations recent tragedy. Resource management has plagued Haiti since its independence. Haiti is a particularly natural resource poor member of the global community. A great many of its peoples struggles arise from resource scarcity. Through typographic design we chose to envision a Haiti renewed, resource rich, lush and green and in full flower. We can only hope that one day Haiti can return to such a glorious state.
The typography included was designed atop an isometric triangular grid while the flowers and birds were designed on their own grid-based systems. C13 HEX, our most recently designed typeface was a byproduct of the Haiti type design process. At cypher13 we believe doing good manifests the same. In this manner we set out to design a poster to help raise funds for Haiti. We were rewarded with a beautiful experience, a poster we're proud of, a new typeface, and an opportunity to provide others with future opportunities.
The Humanitarian poster was printed in Boulder, Colorado by Ray McDermott at Good Thoughts 4 All, an earth conscious print studio committed to sustainable practices. In all, forty, seven-color posters were printed using earth-friendly inks on 80lb recycled paper. The posters are twenty four inches wide by sixteen inches tall.

Leo and I are looking for pieces of art to fill our new home. We have nothing except a few photos and old college posters. Our only rule is we want to support independent artists, preferably locally, and we have to love the piece.
Leo's long been a skateboarder/surfer/snow boarder/strap crap to feet and hurtle down a hill person. We saw this at a live show the other night and Leo and I both loved it, right away.

Sewa (selfless volunteering) with the Sikh Soup Kitchen. The Sikh Soup Kitchen have been supporting elderly, needy and students during the lockdown by giving them Langar (Blessed food) supplies from the Gurudwara Baba Deep Singh JI in Handsworth.
Daily we packed and delivered more than 50 freshly cooked food parcels. We have also been given a chance by almighty to serve people with sugar, tea, bread and other essentials.
In one last selfless act, Kate's Taurus bravely gave it's life so that we may have a bigger car. You, sir, are a true hero.
Today, I visited a temple in the village near where I'm staying. This was the head monk at the temple. He has been a monk for over 20 years. He's only 31 and he has been a monk since he was 12. I named this entry "selfless" because that's what he represented to me and gave off a peaceful aura. He was concerned about others and I think we should all be thinking this way. I like the natural light coming from the open window directly to his left. The small flicker of light in his eyes also add to this photo. I had my camera and was invited to take pictures of him. Someone who knew the monk asked if it would be alright and he agreed. We were the only people at the temple and it was a real nice experience.

APD HONORS OUR SELFLESS VOLUNTEERS #CommunityCommitment

The sacrifice that our volunteers make on a daily basis is in undoubtedly in furtherance of the Aurora Police Department’s mission and distinctly reflects upon the community which we collectively serve.
We are proud to have such wonderful volunteers as a part of our blue family!
