I've been taking a lot of self portraits lately. It's helping me discover more about myself, both in an artistic sense and a personal one.

Continuing to upload a few of my old paintings from the days before ‘bits and bytes’, today with a Self Portrait from 1994.

Prompted by seeing a photo of an old friend on facebook, I dug out some pieces i’d made many years ago, in the days before I had cameras and computers and I used pens and pencils and paintbrushes to capture the world around me.

Hopefully this process will lead to me drawing and painting again, but first, it will involve me uploading a few old faves to act as motivation.

It's also prompted me to try and understand how i got where I am today (working as a professional photographer) from where I was back then, trying to make my way as an artist. I've written a little piece on my website to try and understand and document that evolution.

She Blinded Me with Science was a song released by British musician, composer, musical director and professor Thomas Dolby (nee Robertson) in 1982.

Dolby emerged on the new wave scene in the early 1980s and released a number of best selling albums. Dolby plays keyboards and has composed movie and video game soundtracks as well as working as a session musician and producer. He is also a professor of music at John Hopkins University in the United States, heading the Peabody Institute's Music for New Media program.
