A nifty little Yashica EZ-matic that takes 126 cartridges. I just need to get a few and then I can reload them with 35mm film.

Another Cornish beach photo. This time rocks at Porth Ledden, which sits at the mouth of a valley filled with remnants of mining activities. I was drawn to this water-smoothed rock with its veins of quartz sat amid the grey and pink speckled granite around it. Some late afternoon sun obligingly provided the light that I think helps to make this image.
Traditional wet darkroom print on Adox Fineprint Vario Classic FB paper, developed in Moersch SE2 warmtone developer and finished in selenium for 5 minutes at 1+15. This paper is interesting to work with as its emulsion has a very high silver content. Developing takes at least a minute longer than most fibre-based papers and it eats chemistry as well. On the plus side it has no accelerators or optical brighteners so looks much more 'natural' alongside some of its modern competitors.

The beauty of the 11th and 12th century rock carvings found at Belur, and closely relatedly at Somnathpura and Halibeedu, are second to none.
The fabulous Hoysala dynasty temples carvings at Belur are not quite as prolific as at the other temples. Still, this is a working place of worship and has been actively used since the 11th century. On this visit we had the God's Darshan (which is something we didn't have the first trip several years prior).
I am thinking of putting together a folio of images from these three temples. I have enough material that I'm concerned I might need to make a folio from each temple.
To this end, I am experimenting with tints and paper types to see what appeals to me. This is a selenium brown tint. It's less chocolate than the gum over palladium tints that I used on the Somnathpura images here.
I applied a selenium brown tone sample to the desaturated Qtpfstui. I'll be playing with these tone sampling tools to see what I like and how it impacts the final images. Though looking at this image, I'm thinking I need to retain color somewhere/somehow. This is a little too complex to my eye.

Selenium is used in the toning of photographic prints, and it is sold as a toner by numerous photographic manufacturers including Kodak and Fotospeed. Its use intensifies and extends the tonal range of black and white photographic images as well as improving the permanence of prints.
Early photographic light meters used selenium but this application is now obsolete.

Update: Checked against some other meters against Kodak gray card and this is right on. So, I would have to say, for 99 cents plus shipping, a real bargain.
Went to the zoo with my assistant, Amanda, and Nicole for a shoot.
Nicole is a professional photographer, so I found it only fitting to tone each image as you would fine art film prints. : )

I took this picture with a Holga plastic camera in 1995 on my first trip to Italy.
This is not a scan of the negative but rather a picture of a framed print, so the quality is not fantastic, but that's how the finished work looked.

Toned in Selenium.
