Seedlings don't like to be whipped around by strong winds so I tucked them between and behind larger planters to help protect them from the winds. Hover over the image to find out what I'm growing.
These koa seedlings have filled the dibble tubes in which they were sown and are ready to be planted in the ground. The seedlings have a good shoot:root ratio (maybe getting a little to the tall side) and nice thick stems. The small containers make the seedlings inexpensive to grow but limit the time they can be kept in the nursery before becoming pot bound. The dibble tubes were removed and the seedlings were wrapped in plastic before shipping to keep the roots from drying out.
Our oak seedling was outgrowing its small pot and we haven't decided where we'd like it to be in our yard for the next 150 years, so we transplanted it into a larger pot.
Seedlings of Asimina triloba (pawpaw). The seeds were recovered from fruit in the fall of 2010 stored in damp peat moss in the refrigerator for approximately 9 months. Part of my pawpaw life cycle set.
