White chocolate cakes with cream cheese butter cream icing and fresh seedless raspberry filling. (sorry about the poor photo quality, not sure what happened)
One of the greatly anticipated pleasures was to grab the secateurs and cut the year's first bunch of grapes on the vine. I believe its the gamza variety. Unusual but attractive twist in the flavour. Ok... not exactly seedless with as many of 3 large seeds in a smallish grape and nevertheless delicious on early morning meusli with local walnuts or in the afternoon under the dudy tree with the village soft cheese (later in week).
Ok my 2nd as evolved by the last day, and it remains a dream, is maybe to prepare a meal with vine leaves. In Bulgaria this dish (I think) is called sarmi and I'm open to correction, The vine stuffing can include a diversity of ingredients - rice, minced meat, pine nuts, walnuts, raisins, mint and lemon juice. Across the planet they reckon cabbage leaves can be used as a substitute. I say just be prepared. Gather the vine leaves and enjoy a side of cabbage steamed and then add butter.
27.08.2015: Up long before the sun arrives in the valley. Dew point is surprisingly high given the damp ground early morning. Walnuts: Looking great but they need a great deal of coaxing to leave the tree. Given the piercing test, they are too advanced for pickling (1). Have a look at the wall around the water tank. 2 days of heavy rain has taken its toll and it is clear that we have a soil erosion issue... all soil is being washed out. Need to act quickly and before winter.
(1).On my return to the uK, I make a beeline to the local walnut tree on the 55th North parallel to find the less mature walnuts, higher latitude nuts have been harvested early.

Love this PB cling stamp "sunny pair". I colored it with Copics and then distressed the image using tea dye and old paper distress inks. the splatters were added using seedless preserves and scattered straw distress inks. thanks for looking.

So this weekend (after spending most of last in Death Valley on vacation) we were a wee bit ambitious. We had prepped the area for our veggie garden a couple of weeks ago. This morning we went to my favorite toy store (Lowes) and got stuff to put the garden in.
We spent most of Saturday afternoon doing maintenance around the property. I had picked up a new 4 cycle Toro weed whacker and whacked most of our half acre lot (okay, it only feels like most of it. there's still a good size chunk to go). The winter rains had turned the driveway edges into a jungle and it wouldn't be long before code enforcement tagged us so I needed to get it done. Dug out an old overgrown blood grass plant and spread a soil sterlilant on the hillside to keep down future weed growth.
At Lowes today we picked up a selection of pepper plants, tomoatoes, flowers, cucumbers, and a few cubic feet of mulch. We first added about a hundred pounds of amendment to the garden area, rototilled it in, and then got the plants in. Planted some sacrificial marigolds at the row ends.
Here's a row of peppers in a raised bed and adjacent to those are the tomatoes (one is a hybrid called Goliath that bears fruit up to 24 ounces each) and at the far end the cukes are planted in front of the trellis.
The watering is done via buried soaker hose and the whole thing has several inches of mulch on top to conserve moisture
Behind the trellis and past the Meyer lemon tree I have a Thompson seedless grape vine and some lavender growing. The grape vine is about 10 years old and it and the lavender are coming back in.
The area we had the garden in last year (about half the size) was looking pretty bare so we picked up some flowers and planted a bed of Freesia's,Persian Buttercup, Cape Daisy Iringa, and Felicia Daisy's (blue)
Sally's real happy with they this worked out as she can easily see it from the dining room table while watching the local birds at our feeder.

Most cultivars of breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) are seedless, so they need to be vegetatively propagated. Often new breadfruit plants come from root suckers, and a section of the entire root is transplanted. Here, a cut tree seems to be sprouting from the root collar and the shoots are being marcotted or air-layered.

Immature sori covered by indusia on the underside of a fern frond. The indusium is a scale of leaf tissue that forms an umbrella-like cover over the developing sporangia in the sorus. Once the sporangia are mature, it falls off on this fern, facilitating the dispersal of the spores. This is a leaf on the same fern as this one showing a view of these sori against the light source.
