It's 16 July 2022 - the weekend of the Dunwich Dynamo. It's the first year since 2019 that it is back to where it was with return coach & trucking for bicycles. We need to re-fuel we have an overnight cycle ride of 112 miles ahead of us.
We are in the middle of a heat wave, so we pick somewhere in the shade to eat. Even late in the afternoon the sun is strong and the temperature high.
A view across to our bicycles is ideal. We can keep a look out for them.

Presidio La Bahia and Fannin Memorial, Goliad, Texas. "Remember the Alamo! Remember La Bahia!" Today, the siege and fall of the Alamo is legendary; but few outside of Texas historians know about the tragedy at the Presidio La Bahia.
The Spanish fort Presidio La Bahia was originally founded to protect the Mission Espiritu Santo de Zuniga on Lavaca Bay in 1722, but moved inland to its present-day location in 1749 when the mission (a quarter mile distant) was relocated. It served as a strongpoint for Spanish and Mexican forces for the better part of a century, until Goliad became a centerpoint for the Texas independence movement.
In 1836, a few weeks after the fall of the Texan forces at the Alamo, Colonel Fannin and several hundred of his men were defeated at the nearby Battle of Coleto. Approximately four hundred men were held as prisoners of war at the Presidio La Bahia by General Santa Anna - and it was under his orders that they were all executed, one-by-one, on Palm Sunday - saving Colonel Fannin for last. About 25 men were saved by a noble Spanish lady called 'The Angel of Goliad', and a few dozen managed to escape or feigned death - but a total of 343 men were executed that day. The bodied were stripped and partially burned, and left to rot in the Sun.
A few weeks later, the Texans forces, enraged by the massacres at The Alamo and La Bahia, defeated Santa Anna and secured Texas' independence from Mexico. Later that summer, the bones of the fallen soldiers were gathered and buried in a mass grave and memorial near the Presidio.
I visited the Presidio La Bahia on a rainy March 6, 2008, following a trip to the Mission Espiritu Santo a quarter mile away (the photos of that visit are in a separate photoset). After falling into ruin, the fort has been faithfully reconstructed, and houses a small museum.
Nearby, a few hundred feet away, is the Angel of Goliad statue, standing alone in a field. And next to that is the impressive Colonel Fannin Battleground Monument, which marks where the bodies of the Texan soldiers are buried. This early in spring, the very first bluebonnets were peeking out of the field. After this, a quick trip to downtown Goliad, a mile down the road.

This is a high-quality, FULLY ASSEMBLED replica of the clipper that sailed out of the port of Galveston, Texas, in the mid-1800s.
Master craftsmen using historical photographs, drawings or original plans meticulously handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop.
This beautiful Harvey model features: a varnished two tone colors wood on the hull, plank on frame, and two decks. The front bowsprit and three large masts are connected securely using advanced rigging and lines painstakingly knotted and fastened by hand. Each yard has an attached hand-stitched unfurled sails made of fine linen. Metal anchors and a wooden rudder are visible on the front and rear of the ship. On the deck, there are metal stationed cannons, wooden windlass, bell tower, and many other spectacular ornaments.
This model comes standard with a solid wood base and brass nameplate. It’ll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast or passionate collector.
History The Harvey was built in 1847 in the state of Maryland. She was an able sailer working out of the port of Galveston Texas. At the turn out the Century she was making several voyages a year between Galveston and the ancient Jewish port of Jaffa which at the time was still under the Ottaman empire. Her main cargo was hemp used to make ropes for the rigging of ships.

They say, driving a car moves the body but riding a bike moves the soul, no wonder it is every bad boy’s dream─to own a big bike! On the other hand, we cannot deny the fact that riding the bike, though it obviously gives thrill, is more risky than driving a car. This is the reason why there is a motorcycle insurance, to secure the safety of the rider. But what if you are riding with a loved one, say with your wife, how can you ensure the safety of the both of you while on the road?

Built by the Ormonde Motor Co., Wells Street, Oxford Street, London and was powered by a Belgian Kelecom engine (some had Antoinette engines) fitted in the space between the seat and rear mudgauard, The result was a reductionin the belt centres and enhanced belt-slip. The Motorbikes were supplied with engine parts and fitings for home or workshop assembly
