I pulled in a couple of nice size Bream out of this little honey hole on Friday. I had no intentions of taking any photos while here, but the clouds were telling me other wise. I do believe that I am going to catch a 1lb + Bream out of this pond this summer ...

Really tough location to get up to. I had the great idea to climb this tough hill in the middle of the night. I've always seen photos of this spot but I never could locate it. it was worth the tough hike for this shot
The penultimate day of 2012 and I see nice clouds forming. I had my son all week since he was off, and I just knew there was going to be a sunset. To convince him to go, I let him use my D200 camera and said lets go to the beach, and he agreed. So we first went to Pt. Mugu rock… ehhhh not feeling it. Then we stopped by Sycamore Cove and he said we were just there. True. Stopped again at my secret spot, and there was a couple guys fishing, and a couple girls sharing what looked like a bottle of wine. “Lets go here!” he said, even though we go to this spot just as often. He knew he’d be able to find starfish or as some people call them “Sea Stars”. Don’t call them Sea Stars to my face, I’ll slap you in the neck meat. They’re STARFISH! (don’t ruin my childhood with your politically correct scientific name)
So we get to the sand and I hear, “John??”. One of the two girls recognizes me and it’s none other than one of the first models I’ve photographed before Alex. This was now her default spot to catch a sunset too ever since I brought here three years ago. I’ve also done her headshots and some studio work with an aweful behind the scenes video. So they were just catching the sunset, and Dylan and I were doing our thing. Then she and her friend started taking photos at sunset with their iPhone, so I offered to take some shots of them. Then as she was up on the rock, with a rockin sunset in front of her, I got a snap with my camera.
This will probably be requested by Getty Images in 5….4…….3……2……. (better not ask for a model release either)

When we first arrived at this little beach, there weren't too many clouds. Eventually, the clouds began rolling in, treating us to a wonderful sunset. It was windy, so we had quite a bit of sea spray to deal with. I'm sure I missed some shots because I had to clean my filters. That's one of the challenges shooting along the coast!

lease LARGE VIEW!!!
The beautiful Sao Miguel from a high vantage point. We had the most wonderful couchsurfing host Madalena, who went above and beyond to ensure that we saw all of her favourite spots on the island. And even when she wasn't available, she told us exactly where to go. By far my best couchsurfing experience, and one of the most beautiful places that I have visited :)
I believe this is the view overlooking Ribeira Grande but I'm not 100% sure.
As some of you may know, Andy and Bean are great buddies and often go out to photograph together. They have been great Flickr friends and wonderful hosts. They even organized some great light for me when I went out with them earlier this March.
Considering my track record on steep California bluffs (took a tumble last year in San Francisco), I decided not to follow them up there. They are much more sure footed than I!
I think this is one of my favorite shots from that great afternoon out with them.
A pretty stream flows from the base of La Fortuna Waterfall, you can peek around the corner and catch a "secret view" of the falls. Of course just around the corner is about 100 people (at least)!
Actually, I don't think Andy spotted a mermaid. But there were pretty big waves that evening. It was a constant battle with the sea spray!
Thanks to my husband for the title.
This shot was taken down by the water, a few feet away from the first shots on top of the lifeguard tower. I like this one more because of the rocks and the foamyness of the water. Yeah, this is my new background. Make it your background HERE free on me. I'm a giver.
And even though it's a Secret Spot, I did put it on the map (to the right here) for those interested in doing something similar.
