Utah has many hidden treasures waiting to be enjoyed, some are easy, and some like this a little more of a challenge.

The same location as my last post, but with this view, the rock is much broader. The desert landscape does not have any trees or plants.

Big thanks to my good friend Joshua Crites for taking me to one of his favorite spots.
I'm off to Washington DC for a few days. I hope I return soon. So this is farewell for a bit. Not sure if it's until tomorrow, or next week. So I'll leave you with this.
Love others like you want to be loved.

Found this art installation last weekend. Had to go back to shoot it in the evening as the daylight shadows messed it up. Seldom has the pov, crop and editing given itself as it did here. The whole shot was finding the spot.
Did I hear leading lines? :p
The last few shots have prompted me to think about the nature of camouflage. Camille's markings are similar to that of a "big" cat in the wild, after all. So, I converted this one to black and white and she disappears into a blur of pattern.
When I saw Camille in this spot, at the edge of the garden, I did a double take because I couldn't be sure I saw her. Then I looked one more time. I wonder how many times she has watched me silently from this spot before?

Devil's Valley lies high in the Caucasus Mountains, near the Jvari Pass. The valley is known for its raw beauty: steep mountains, deep gorges, fast-flowing rivers, and ancient watchtowers. In the past, it was a strategically important area, but also dangerous and difficult to traverse. It earned the nickname “Valley of the Devils” because invaders would often get lost, be ambushed, or simply never return—partly due to the fierce defense by the local population. Few tourists venture here; it feels like a hidden world. Especially outside the summer season, the valley is hard to access. Hikers and off-road adventurers love this kind of terrain, but it’s far from a typical day trip. One of the natural highlights of the area is the Eretos Waterfall. Cascading down a rocky cliff into a narrow gorge, the waterfall is tucked away between forested slopes. The sound of the falling water echoes through the valley, adding to the mysterious atmosphere of the region. It’s a place where nature takes center stage: wild, untouched, and barely marked by human presence. Visiting the waterfall feels like a reward for those willing to explore this rugged landscape.
Devil's Valley lies high in the Caucasus Mountains. The region is dramatic and mountainous, with panoramic views and an untamed character. It lies along the famous Georgian Military Highway, an ancient route that connects Tbilisi with Russia via the Jvari Pass. The landscape displays a mesmerizing contrast between snow-capped peaks and the golden autumn slopes, a characteristic feature of the region in late autumn. The deep blue sky emphasize the grandeur of the Caucasus, making this a truly awe-inspiring sight. Kanitha enjoying a view on the valley, with the impressive Caucasus mountains in the background.

Down a beaten path off the railroad in Christiansburg VA this place is a gem for a million reasons. The number one being I've yet to see anyone else there no matter when I go. To the right where you cant see is a waterfall from a country side river..
Another secret spot , but this one I won't be bringing anyone to go see. That'll be touched on in a future post. Meh'.

The raw beauty of Tenerife’s coastline, where towering cliffs meet the crashing waves of the Atlantic. A dramatic and untamed landscape sculpted by wind and water, whispering stories of ancient forces at play.

Am I still posting shots of those clouds from Tuesday?
Yes I am.
And probably will be for a while. But I do have a couple shoots lined up this weekend too which I'll sprinkle in.
This was actually my favorite shot from the evening. I've wanted a shot like this for a while; the clouds were just an added bonus.
Not sure how much I'm going to post before my trip. But thank you so much for all the support, comments, emails and gift baskets.
Hope your weekend starts off well.
A male Northern Harrier rests on the ground. They are named for their coloration and slow methodical flight. The females and juveniles are brown.

It looks like a magical spot right out of Lord of the Rings. I expect Gandalf or Hobbits to be walking through the scene any moment. This is the La Fortuna Waterfall, post processed.
UPDATE: Oct 6th, this spot is no longer there. The new river flood from Hurricane Helene flattened the area and swept everything away.
Aim high, move forward, the comfort zone is for temporary resting and re fueling your energy. Staying in one place for the sheer ease of it creatively will assure only one thing, dry, uninspired art that needs talking into and convincing to be tolerable.
If you fall, get up, if you slow down, speed up, if you get lazy reprimand yourself for it .
Things grow in you and on you in the comfort Zone, and they're things we don't need, want and then find difficult to shed and begin again.
Get up, get out and create in different ways or soon enough you'll find unwanted things growing in and on you , creatively speaking.
On top of that...the world is waiting for you to create and share your art, besides..... we're all worth the effort.

The local police followed the men and saw them pull into the Owl Motel, the one with the huge neon "WHO" that has become a landmark of sorts.
Yesterday we found this awesome bike covered in vines, but due to location and height it would be tricky to get a good Astro shot. So I've created my vision and here it is :)

Here's a shot I've made by combining 12 pictures. 3 HDr shots were used to get the tones and details in water as well as in the sky. Then, I've used a panoramic fusion, as my 24mm wasn't wide enough.
I bought the B+W ND110 10-stop filter a couple months ago in hopes of being able to do SUPER long exposures to get some great milky water shots from the ocean and rich colors from the sky. This shot above is with NOT using that filter. It’s from a $8 filter from South Korea that I got off ebay. I’ve had trouble with my ND110 and for $100, it should work better.
Just wondering if any of you landscapers who do use the ND110 if you have this same issue of spurious vertical linear sun flare. (see below). The lens is brand new and clean, as is the lens it’s being put on, Nikkor 17-35. But just can’t figure out why it’s doing this. Anyone have any suggestions?
A sunrise on the gorge...I used the "gimmicky" blue gold filter here..So the colors change depending on how you rotate the filter on the end of your lens...It was kinda lackluster..& this gave it some pretty light..you either like the effect or not!...:-) I obviously do..:-)
Tonight is the last opportunity to catch the setting sun. Luckily there will be plenty more next year.
Good luck to all of you on your diets and other new years resolutions. Me, I'm just going to be happy in 2011. I suggest you try it.
Happy New Year. Be safe.
Once again I was blessed with an amazing sunset after work today. I took my friend Jess who runs the popular blog on coupons and store discounts and she laughed at how simple capturing a sunset appeared to be (minus the waves crashing a few feet ahead of me) After I got home I emailed her a preview of this image and she remarked, "I didn't know cameras were capable of this." And I showed her the filters I was using and described the process. She was on "Wave Watch" as I've already lost too much equipment this year due to eratic waves.
Anyway, I'm off to do a Friday afternoon wedding near here, and then it's packing for Miami.
Have a great weekend all!
UPDATE Now I'm marrying her :)
UPDATE AGAIN We're married!!! Best day ever!
UPDATE AGAIN AGAIN We're having a baby boy!
Perseverance... Keep reaching, if you feel stranded, surrounded, creatively dry , uninspired , or left out in the cold, keep reaching and keep growing no matter how small the steps may seem.
Eventually things will change and you'll see over and past your surroundings.
Image unaltered, except conversion to B&W.

Thank you for visiting my work , comments and Favs too!.
The back view of this 1937 Ford. Those small red slivers in the middle back of this are his tail lights. All custom. Honestly, if Ford was still making cars like this, I'd buy one. But they're still making crap like the Taurus and Fusion, I'll keep buying foreign.
Anyway, this car is a classic. Hard not to post every photo of it. But this will probably be my last for now.
Forever wait inside the sea for me, my dear
I hear you
You speak in every curling wave
And sing in every violent breeze
Someday not far away from here
My dear, I swear I’ll see you
And we will hear the seraphs cry
For they will still envy you and I
For unbeknownst reasons, I’ve wanted to get into high school senior photography for a while now. Don’t get me wrong, I love patiently waiting for hours while a newborn calms down just to wrap him in a cute white sack only for him to toot-out nuclear waste onto it. But high school seniors are at the threshold of adulthood, and unlike newborns or groomsmen, they take direction pretty well. Plus they’re spunky and if you gain their trust will do anything, like jumping on the beach at sunset. Now Carina was a very good sport and her mom was laughing as I yelled to her, “come on, be a man and get some air! Gimme some Toyotathon!” It was one of those sunsets that looked totally blah all day and then… all of a sudden… BOOM, amazing color.
No footprints were not removed. I put a note of where she jumped
And a special thanks to Cameron for scouting out the location, parking, etc. We were suppose to shoot at El Matador but it was overrun by people, so just went here and… awesome sauce.
