This is Duckis. He was found by the shelter. When found, we figure he was hit by a car or abused. He had a long wound on his back maggots inside the wound. He has come a long ways but still has a ways to still go.
Be kind to animals.... Just saying.

A conbo of my background photography and AI forground.
Hope you enjoy!
After three years of memories, growth, and finding our way, life brought us back to where we were always meant to be, together. These past two months have been nothing short of magic, filled with comfort, laughter, and the deep connection we've always shared. This photo holds more than just a moment; it holds a love that never truly left, only paused until the time was right. Here's to us, to second chances, and to everything still ahead. I’m so thankful for you, always.

"We're given second chances every day of our life. We don't usually take them, but they're there for the taking."
Andrew Greeley
One of the rare joys of working with watercolor is being given a second chance.
Originally this vase of flowers was sitting on a yellow table top and the background was white. As I wandered by it many times a day, I realized it was floating in space.
Throwing caution to the wind, I dropped in color, wet on wet, for the wallpaper effect. Now the vase is firmly placed and I'm satisfied. ;)
This is a photo I took in July. It was one of those that was really nothing special and has been sitting on my hard drive for several months waiting to be deleted. Since I haven't had a lot of time for photography of late, I decided to import it into lightroom and give it a try. I am not sure why, but I really like it. The original was really over-exposed - a very bright day at the orchard. However, lightroom allowed me to take the exposure down a notch and then add emphasis to the tones. I sent it to Photoshop Elements 6 and added some contrast, a texture and Isabelle's Soulful Vintage Action. It is so amazing how processing can made a really ordinary shot come to life.

♬♬♬♬♬ Build a fire and gather 'round the tree
Fill a glass and maybe come and sing with me
So kiss me under the mistletoe
Pour out the wine, let's toast and pray for December snow
I know there's been pain this year, but it's time to let it go
Next year, you never know
But for now, Merry Christmas ♬♬♬♬♬
Merry Christmas - Ed Sheehan ft. Elton John
The best gift I received this morning was the magic of second chances to recover what couldn't have been last Christmas.
We both had to wait a year and put some pieces back in place. Others more personal with deep wounds are still to be fixed but I'll work on that.
I learnt to smile, be crazy and continue to love those around with all heart because we aren't always lucky enough to have second chances!
Smiling happily merry and with faith.

I'm not sure why, but I really like fountains. Maybe it's the cascading water that seems so peaceful, but I can set a watch the water movement for hours... maybe it's that I'm losing it and the simple things are easier for my brain to focus on :)
This fountain was in front of the train station in San Diego. As we were waiting for our shuttle to Sea World I sat by this fountain and took about forty different shots of the water patterns coming over the lip and falling down. It was also a peaceful place to think and pray for my little buddy Angel who is recovering from transplant surgery up at UCLA... keep getting stronger little buddy!!
This temple was visible from a guesthouse on the River Kwai. It is another typical example of the fusion of Bhuddhism and other beliefs. The structure is completely different to the usual Thai temple structure.

The day I took this was the day that started out all wrong, but wound up being all kinds of right.
A little back story: On our first day we planned to drive from Las Vegas to Page, AZ and hit Horseshoe bend for sunset. The rental car took way longer than expected and we missed it by 20 min. Not a huge deal, but hard to miss it by so little. Then the next day, the storm rolled in. We were driving from Page to Moab, UT that day through Monument Valley, which we were really excited about. To our dismay though, it was completely socked in. We couldn't see anything. At all. So we disappointingly drove right through. After a couple nights in Moab the plan was to drive to Bryce Canyon...that night a winter storm warning was issued with 3 feet of snow predicted overnight (the park actually closed for a couple days). This meant, drive straight into the storm, or turn around and head back the way we came. We opted to turn around and head for Page again.
It was disappointing to think we would miss Bryce (wanting to see it was the catalyst that started this trip) but we were also excited that this meant an extra shot at seeing monument valley. Weather forecasts predicted more clearing in the afternoon so we killed some time by going back to Arches. We were shocked to see the clouds start to lift and the sun peek through. "This is our chance to see Delicate Arch in sunlight!" we proclaimed. The first time seeing it we found ourselves in a big snow storm. So we hurried over and practically ran the 1.5 mile hike up a rock to catch it (at this point we had found ourselves in so many unexpected snow storms that we honestly felt like it was following us...we had to hurry to beat the storm!). Sure enough we made it, and it was incredible!
Feeling pretty elated about our first true turn of luck, we headed to Monument Valley. While I can't say we had blue skies with a few white puffy clouds, I can say we could see stuff! This photo is of the road that leads into it. I suddenly yelled, "I know this place!" and told Nick to pull over...and like the good husband he is, he slammed the brakes on immediately so I could get the shot I wanted. One done frequently, yes, but I wanted my version, from our trip.
After stopping to see "the mittens" we moved on and headed toward Page. It was apparent that we just might make it in time to see sunset at Horseshoe Bend. Up and over mountain passes we went, through snow and rain, but as we got closer to Page we could see a wonderful patch of blue sky directly where we were headed. Time was running out though! Sunset was beginning! When we pulled into the gravel lot to park the sun was hanging low. Grabbing our gear we ran through the sand, hiking down to the breathtaking canyon. The sun had dipped behind the mountains within minutes of us getting there, but somehow I managed to snag a picture I quite liked. We stayed until it was almost dark, enjoying the desert land and watching moonrise. What had started as a forced change of plans turned into what we dubbed "Second Chance Monday."
Life can throw the most unexpected things into our paths. It can be extremely frustrating when we hold too tightly to our own idea of "perfect." Only when we let go of these notions are we free to experience life as it comes and the process itself...full of surprises, disappointments, and second chances.
I bought both Taivas and Tasku a poppy tag for remembrance day. This time of year brings many memories of the losses of dear friends and much loved animals but I also got married on the 11th November, 38 years ago.
The 05 was one of the last steam locomotives used by Northwestern Steel and Wire Co. in Sterling,IL. before they switched over to oil engines in the early '80s.NWSW was one of the very last American companies to use steam. Several of these locomotives and their tenders were moved to discarded trackage behind a grain elevator in Galt,IL. in the mid '80s whereas others were scrapped. They have all been sold to various museums and collectors except for this old girl. This was thought to have also been gone-purportedly it was sold to a concern in Quncy,IL.-until a month ago when it was uncovered when the elevator cleared land to build a new grain bin. She's a complete beauty and hopefully she will get that second chance somewhere where she will be appreciated...
Please check out this link to an old photo of the 05 in action in the Sterling steel yards..
Have a great sliders sunday everyone!
I didn't think I was much of a fan of flowers or animals ; yet I seem to cross so often on Flickr the most charming pictures with animals, and I surprise myself with not so few flower shots of my own...
I "ban" them to my secondary account, but they're so colourful, I guess they deserve some justice and attention here too.
Flowers for my fans, flowers for you!
So here's 4 flowers shots, from my (secondary) wimwamplus account :
1. Stairs to a secret garden , 2. Fire ,
3. Painting Sunflowers , 4. Fiori allegri
.
Feeling the Monday blues? Just pile up on your friends and stomp them playfully. You know what they say - its aint true joy until you trouble the people you love :D
Macro Monday: Theme - Transformation
I transformed an old cigar box into one of the handmade journals I so love to create. I am starting to make time for this craft once again. It takes me 10x longer than it once did because of busy family life but that's ok. I've learned to adapt to my environment of chaos and still manage to crank out a book or two.
HMM & HSS!
Thanks so much for front page! and your wonderful comments. I'm blushing.
Studio 26 Triangles - again, many overlapping triangles - the sax forms an inverted triangle, the steps that Buzz is standing on form a triangle, Buzz himself is a distorted triangle, the piano is a triangle.
Buzz went back to his musical pursuits recently and has taken up tenor sax. He's really quite good - as long as you don't mind hearing only one note :)
Studio 26 - this was a lighting challenge for me. I am posting my outtakes in the group so you can see what I did. In this final image I darkened the foreground as suggested by Stefanie using layers.
I had hoped to try another "Second Chance" but have run out of time, so this will be my submission for Studio 26.
