CASA MILA - LA PEDRERA, BARCELONA, SPAIN
Taken on March 23, 2024.
Casa Milà popularly known as La Pedrera "the stone quarry" which refers to its unconventional rough-hewn appearance, is a Modernista building in Barcelona, Spain and the last private residence designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. It was built between 1906 and 1912.
It has several structural innovations including a self-supporting stone façade, a free-plan floor, underground garage and the spectacular terrace on the roof.
In 1984, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The name is a reference and a tribute to one of my favorite cat portraits by Helen Sotiriadis which you can see here: www.flickr.com/photos/toomanytribbles/7274833712/lightbox/ and of course to one of the most amazing short stories in S.F. by Philip K. Dick (more on this here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Variety ) from which I suspect Helen got the title for her cat portrait. This example shows, how you can, in some way, manage contrast of final wet plate picture with exposure time.
There are tree versions of the same scenery. Exposure difference is not dramatic - around quarter stop increase from the first to the second and another quarter or less was added in the third, brightest one picture.
The first, darkest picture on the left has perfect whites, but there is too much of pure black black parts without details. Increasing time started colouring overexposed whites down from pure white to creamy white. The white porcelain vase looks best on the darkest version, but in this case I’d gladly trade loos in whites for more details in darks. I considered the first picture as underexposed, but both the second and the third version are OK for me.

For the second-last time ever, Amtrak 8, the westbound 'Empire Builder', passes under the Pennsy PLs at CP Morgan, Racine Ave, Chicago. Over the next two days, the remaining two position-light heads here would be replaced.
I don't know who owns this house but it has one of the coolest roofs I've ever seen. I really expected there to be very little color this year because of how little rain we got this summer but they really popped. This is one of my top 3 favorites from this autumn.
This will be very fun to swoosh.

At this point on the bike trail cars can cross and at first I thought this was just a tunnel with the train tracks above. It took me a second of actual looking to realize that this is a movable piece of the flood wall. I also really enjoyed the alien abduction graffiti I noticed inside.

Wanted to try photographing the waterfall I took a picture of last week but now the flow was much reduced so I could get the angle I originally wanted. I am standing in the stream but the flow was far too deep and strong when I was here previously.
I thank you in advance for any comments.

My second circus cake. The mother wanted it to like the most similar to my previous one that it could, stressing the fact that she desired the clown to look identical (even though I tried to convince her to change the colors, at least). The harder part was to make his pose, but I think it looks similar enough.
Everything was made with gumpaste.
