This is my last photo post of this year. I deliberately left this one for the last day of the year. When I reflect on the weather this year, I don’t think I had much luck in my local area. I hope that changes with Winter.

In the last couple of weeks, we had two days of just mild snowfall. But still, it was lovely. This photo was taken on the second time snow was falling. Although I was struggling to get a proper photo to be satisfied. Out of the bunch, I kinda like this one the most because of, you guessed it, the paddle with some autumnal leaves. In my previous wonders around this spot, I always noticed that the ground in this area after some rain or snow, where the paddle is, was always a bit muddy and wet, but I was never there to see the paddle. So I used it now as a sort of an anker to lead the viewer into the rest of the photo. You could see parts of the paddle with some icing on it. I have a mixture of colours in the photo, which I like. So, for the first Winter photo, I think it’s a nice one. I am waiting for I much heavier snow to fall and hopefully to stay for a while. It would be so cool to visit several forest areas around my place of living and explore while there is a thick layer of snow.

At last, I want to say how grateful I am for having the chance to share my photos here on Flickr. There are some folks here with a seriously good photo gallery, which is always great for some inspiration.

Looking forward to getting some good photos and posting them here but until then… Cheers everybody!

This composition came from taking time to review the photo I titled ”First Look.” Patience and envisioning what was drawing me towards the subject I hope to capture what I want the image to convey… the feathery center of the flower.

Take Time to View On Black

After staying in Clayton, New Mexico for the nite, I headed off for Mt Capulin National Monument. About 10 miles out of Clayton, the terrain started to change. Pulled over for some photos as I had to kill some time as the park didn't open until 8:30 AM and I am on the road at 6:30 AM and only 64 miles away from the park.

The 'new' Severn Bridge shot from the shore at Severn Beach.

The morning clouds presented the perfect light for the shot I had in mind so I got up and made my way to this spot at Severn Beach. Sadly about half way through this 5 minute exposure the sun popped out behind me creating some harsh contrast that was not part of my plan.

Despite this, the result is not unpleasant but I will be making my way back on another day.

Obviously it's not my favourite car park any more, but it's still mighty fine.

With the coming of G&W ownership of RailAmerica and the uncertainty of the motive power situation here in the future, we figured a visit to the ISRR's yard at Petersburg was in order. A late night at Ashby Yard finds a few tidbits of power that are put to use on their railroad. Petersburg, IN.

Some of my recent shots which didn't make the cut through tired eyes but were worth sharing.

It's mad how my least favourite shots from the night before can end up being the ones I favor the most after a bit of sleep.

In June this fuchsia was loaded with flower buds. Then one night a passing deer decided they tasted even better than they looked and the next morning every single bud was gone.

This pitched the plant into a months'-long sulk. It took time and several servings of fertilizer for the plant to regain its spirits.

Now it's approaching full bloom. I wouldn't blame the deer for browsing away at the colorful flowers now that I've placed the new hydrangea and the young fuchsia they cropped so badly inside protective wire enclosures.

Judging by the abraded and broken limbs on the few other shrubs we've added since moving here, the bucks are probably more interested in getting the velvet off their antlers and impressing each other with them than looking for pretty things to eat.
