OK, I'll say this once: Cape Fur Seals need renaming. In fact, I think all "fur seals" need renaming. They are Sealions.
Northern Elephant Seals (Mirounga angustirostris) on the beach. Point Piedras Blancas, near Cambria, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif.
Life's rough, isn't it? This guy looks like he's having a *real* tough day (note the heavy sarcasm...). He's just a big, blubbery blob watching over his harem. Taken at the Piedras Blancas elephant seal rookery.
Some shots I recently took of some seals on Bull Island in Dublin, Ireland. Two types of seals can be found on the Island and around Dublin bay, the grey seal and the common seal.
I think these are common seals although I may be wrong.
This is just a taster of pictures taken on Lundy over 3 days - 7th to 9th April 2011.
The seals were on a very rocky beach and two small islands offshore. In one's and two's they swam over to just below the rock on the beach I was standing on. They were as curious of me as I was of them.
More to follow when I have the time to sort them.
TESTIMONIALS from our outreach on the Seal Beach Pier (from Susan Young, leader):
...I came and set up the outreach table, and Mike and I were able to give evangelistic materials away to people searching for answers. Luke, who works with the California School Project, came and shared his Christian testimony and also shared John 3:16, that God so loved us that He gave His only Son to save us from our sins. He exhorted everyone to put their trust in Jesus. It was a beautiful time of testimony.
A woman arrived to the outreach in despair from some family drama and was heading for the bars to medicate her pain with alcohol, when she heard the praise and worship music and and stopped to listen. Martha prayed for her, and she realized her need of turning to God with her pain and put her trust in Him. She said she was not going to the bars.
A man walked up and told us he has cancer and for the past year, he heard our worship music on the pier each Sunday from his window. He told us how it lifted his spirit.
Raymond comes every Sunday and looks up the songs on his phone so that he can sing along. He has started attending church to study the Bible and considers the pier his evening church service.
A mom came with her son that cannot speak but communicates from an alphabet board. They came back to share a poem of praise and thanks to the Lord that he wrote on his alphabet board.
