Lots of seals hanging out at this beach in Snæfellsnes in Iceland. We kept our distance but they kept coming towards us to check us out, very curious animals 💞

This seal followed us walking along the shoreline for almost an hour. What a treat for what was otherwise quite an uninteresting walk along Blakeney Point, Norfolk.

Exhausted alpha at end of breeding season. Three months without food or water, he lost ~1000 pounds.
Weddell seals haul out onto the still persisting sea ice to pup. They have minimal fear of people and it is possible to approach mother and pup really closely before they become upset. In this image, there is no trick photography and no tele-photo lenses. I walked across the sea ice with my cheap fixed lens camera, sat down by the mother and pup, and took some photographs from all of a metre or two. Usually the problem was not panic, but getting them to do something other than snore...
These beautiful seals have taken over the children's cove area at La Jolla Cove. There is ongoing debate whether the area belongs to the children or the seals, who naturally congregate in this area. For now the seals are winning.

We visited Portland Wharf just as one of the fishing boats docked and became aware of a seal that had followed the boat in. The fishermen threw some of their catch overboard to the seal and it had a great time playing with it in the water, throwing it up into the air and chasing after it. The seagulls were trying and sometimes successfully, to get the fish before the seal could get to it. It was absolutely wonderful seeing this beautiful creature so close to the wharf doing what I've only ever seen it do in a documentary. This one was taken by Nigel using my new 200-500mm Tamron. I think these are fabulous captures and I'm green with envy
