I can just about remember the railway that used to run along to the right of this wall, but sadly I can't find any photos in my Dad's collection. But you can see a similar view here.
The Southsea Miniature Railway first opened in 1932 as a 9.5" gauge line operated by a pair of Bassett Lowke 4-4-2 steam locos. The railway closed at the end of 1976 and the two petrol locos were sold to the railway at Sandham Castle on the Isle of Wight. The line at Southsea reopened the following year as a 17" gauge third-rail electric operation. In 1985 it was rebuilt back to 10 1/4" but finally closed in 1989.
Another photo from our summer walk to the seafront. This was actually the same day as our visit to the D-Day Museum. This view is from the esplanade next to the Pyramids Leisure Centre, with the chip kiosk nearby. You can see the Spitbank Fort out at sea and the fairly new rocks in the foreground, which are part of the sea defences.
This is the last photo from the first seafront walk of the year, and I'm guessing the point where the photographer is will be where they are closing the seafront off for a couple of years. (I wanted to make sure I documented it thoroughly!!)
Apart from the Spinnaker Tower, you can see the tall Portsmouth Navy War Memorial. To the right you can also see the obelisk of the Crimean War Memorial.
The seaside promenade in Lyme Regis is more properly known as Marine Parade. According to the blue plaque on the right it was created by the philanthropist Roger Hollis in 1771. The lower part next to the beach is known as the cart road. There is a number of beautiful old houses along here, mainly dating from the Regency period. The one nearest the camera is Grade II-listed and dates from the early 1800s.
The lamp standards along the side of the road have been designed to reflect the area's fame as a rich source of fossils, including ammonites. Mary Anning, who lived in the town when this house was being built, become renowned as a fossil hunter and discovered the first fossilised remains of a plesiosaur as well as numerous other creatures.
Mumbles, Gower Peninsula.
Work at Mumbles is now complete and it is a lovely walk along the seafront with landscaping and play areas for the children.

As it's Wednesday, here is a photo from one of our Wednesday Walks from last June. They were sprucing up the prom and repainting the shelters!
Hope you have a nice Wednesday, my friends! ^_^
A beautiful breezy morning in West Sussex. Littlehampton lighthouse and seafront rockery, with pier and West Beach behind.
The fort and medina of Asilah seen from the harbour wall. Asilah was founded by the Portugese and lies to the south of Tangier.
A perfect morning at Aldeburgh for catching the pastel colours of the beachfront properties. It was so quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of the place when we visited back in July with hardly a soul about.

Wednesday was a lovely sunny day and we decided we should have a drive into the Gower Peninsula, seeing as we were the gateway village to the area. But as always, a dog walk was always wise before a car trip. This is our seafront.
You can see Verdi's Restaurant and 'our tree' in this shot.
The seafront of Lyme Regis taken from The Cobb just before it started to pour with rain, converted to Black and White using Silver Efex Pro. Used a cheap old Minolta zoom kit lens but think it's done a fairly decent job
