This is the plot of land that is being fought over -
In one corner the local people with a scheme paid for by Roger DeHaan and designed by Norman Foster ( www.folkestoneharbour.com/pages/masterplan.html ) - a beautiful masterplan for regenerating the whole area as a sustainable and enjoyable place to live, work and visit.
In the other corner, local property developer Jimmy Godden with his plan for a big block of flats incorporating a casino, cinema and bowling alley. He has gone into business with a company called Trent Developments. Godden owns the grey bit in the picture - this used to be pleasure gardens and boating lakes. He filled them in with concrete years ago so that when he announced his plans for the block the local people would think - it's horrible, but it's better than the concrete carpark...

A lone person sits on a bench overlooking the vast, calm ocean on a clear day. A metal railing separates the paved walkway from the water, while a painted warning on the ground prohibits cycling in the area. The bright blue sky meets the horizon in a simple, peaceful display of coastal scenery.
